Wrote my first Java class today, using Clojure gen-class.

Yesterday I learned two things:

1. The version of Java used in an IDEA clojure project must match the version of java used by lein. This is important when using AOT and clojure 1.7.

2. The cursive plugin needs to be configured in idea to compile at least those modules with gen-class. (AOT)

It is the little things that make life so much nicer!

those road blocks / bumps the kinds of things that make me think the
particular ecosystem is a bunch of crap.

if the ux sucks, then the thing sucks and i think the people making it
kinda suck.

I JUST WANT TO GET WORK DONE. not shit around with under-documented
stuff. my blood BOILS in those situations.

(even just thinking about it right now does! i'm sure it is really
helping my longevity...)

I also dislike wasting a day learning things which are likely obscured because their use is generally discouraged.

On the other hand, the community reminds me of the early Java days when the heavies were accessible. Missed it.

I've also just been given a present: https://github.com/ztellman/collection-check

One thing I have not yet achieved: ease of use. For all that the code is boiler-plate free, it is much more idiomatic. And I am putting in much more effort per line of code output. And it is not yet clear how much easier the overall project is. My hope is that as I become more proficient in Clojure, it will become more fun to use. Java code is simple drudgery. But right now Clojure is just hard work. Will Clojure become fun for me to use? That is a surprisingly critical question!
