-Corrected- sorry first one was sent by mistake!

Kayode:
Indeed sad, especially with the case of NIDO group. The group had a unique oppportunity to effect many positive changes in the country but as you noted, the members defaulted to using the opportunity to achieve
personal interests. They succeeded in so many ways but what else? Why the hesitation to pack and go live in Nigeria? Why complain about things not going well there? Etc. For example, the effort the group invested into obtaining personal things could have been put into working with Nigerian govt to appreciate the importance of investing in good health care, water supply, dustless environment, etc, all of which would have made them and all feel safe/assured going back home as well as allow our people there to obtain services that we take for granted in diaspora. They did not. There are other groups too although none was/is as strong and well connected as NIDO, at least with Obasanjo administration.  We are thus left to imagine what could have been if this group and others had thought about what to do to make the country a better place. (Yesterday, I was at a sight-seeing place with my family and I just thought of how good it would been if a group of Nigerian leaders, in all aspects of life, were brought to such a place and showed them how humans, Not God, turned the area into an area that people now come and recharge while the developers make money generation after generation. There are many other places and things that many diaspora groups from other nations have used to get their leaders back home to think differently. But sadly not Nigeria diasporans. We just do not think along that line and ofcourse as my wife said: how many have actually gone to such places or studied how they came to be! But my question them is: who then do we expect to make the country become what we want it to be like?
Again, of note: such woeful failure and/or focus on selfish interests is not unique to the NIDO group: it is a Nigerian problem and one that we must solve as individuals, as a group and as a nation. Just making noise, blaming “them”, cursing each other, etc will not do it. We must learn to get out of the box; we must learn to be the change that we want to see. This is a charge to all of as Nigerians!
Else, if we do not, we just have to live in limbo and continue to complain about a situation we could have changed and which would have made us all legendary.

Hopefully we all learn from such missed opportunity. Have we? Time is just not on our side now so we must begin now!
Joe

      Joseph Onuorah:
Exactly.
All Nigerians in diaspora are
interested is how to attack
each other's ethnic group on the
forums while wasting
away in foreign lands.
I
called for the formation of a Nigerian
organization in
diaspora in 1999 and 2000
respectively, so that we could
form a united front to develop Nigeria
by channelling ideas
and investments to Nigeria.
The
Nigerians in Dispora Organization NIDO
was born in 2000 from
the diaspora meeting we had with
Obasanjo. Rather than using
NIDO to channel ideas to the Nigerian
government and to
channel investments to Nigeria, NIDO
executives turned NIDO
into personal interest machine to
achieve their own selfish
objectives in Nigeria.
In
1999, before NIDO was born, I wrote a
number of letters and
sent a number of emails to the CEOs
and the CFOs of the
major Technology and Retail companies
existing in the US at
the time, such as Microsoft, Apple
Computers, Sun
Microsystems, CISCO, IBM, Intel,
Yahoo, Netscape, Walmart,
Kroger, Target and several others to
invest and open braches
of their companies in Nigeria.
I
told them how big and attractive the
Nigerian market was to
their companies and how big the Return
on Investment (ROI)
would be for them. Furthermore, I made
personal phone calls
to some of them and some of them
responded by saying that
they would take a look at Nigeria to
see if it was suitable
for their companies.
There
are lot of things we can achieve if we
channel our energies
towards helping to develop Nigeria
rather than engaging in
ethnic chauvinism.
We
only have one life to live in this
world.

For example, the effort the group invested into obtaining personal things could have been put into working with Nigerian govt to appreciate the importance of investing in good health care, water supply, dustless environment, etc

Response: Above is complete poppycock. Maybe I should be more forceful in my response, thus I say above is ludicrous and it demonstrates abject knowledge of NIDOA.

At least I can say without ANY hesitation that the NIDOA where I was one of the two Representative of REGION 5, and I served on the BOT with Noyo Ndem, Richard Soyombo (RIP), Dada, and Chima Ahanotu (to mention a few) did not engage in the conducts BLINDLY described in the post below and part of it cited above.

First, the narrative posted below was presented as if NIDOA was/is a quasi-government agency which is totally false. NIDOA is/was a volunteer group supported by some leaders in government and the capacity and or leverage of NIDOA depends on its leadership, membership, and the individual resources of the leaders leading NIDOA at any given time, as was the case when I served. I used my own personal wealth/resources to help the CAUSE of Nigerians Diaspora in the The Americas, just like every Representatives from all REGIONS did.

My point, we must not be a hypocrite by constantly beating others down when we don’t know the facts, yet we are presenting UNSUPPORTED opinions as verifiable datapoints.

Again, my advice to fora participants - post on things you know, think, and believe and make it conspicuous in your post WHAT is known, believed, and or felt!

Stay tuned
