Hi, guys

We are implementing support for tracking "Purchase on Google" (POG) clicks and are using the {pla_with_POG} value track. However, the missing piece is how POG activity will show up in the AD_PERFORMANCE_REPORT. I would expect to find it here, but that list very sparse (it also doesn't include any of the local variations such as "Product Listing Ad - Local"). Some additional click types are documented here, but not for POG.

Does anyone know what the display value for POG is in this report?

Thanks,
Hans

Hi Hans,

After some searching, I found the display value for Purchase on Google. The ClickType for this value corresponds to ClickType=PRODUCT_LISTING_AD_CLICKS.

Hi, Anthony

Thanks for your reply, but I don't actually think this is correct. "PRODUCT_LISTING_AD_CLICKS" seems to be the predicate value for the display value "Product listing ad". I'm looking for the display value for purchase on Google, which I don't see documented anywhere. See attachment.

Thanks,
Hans

Hello Hans,

The Shopping Performance Report has most of the ValueTrack parameters available. Unfortunately, I don't think the concept of purchases on Google are specifically called out. I know that the {adType} parameter that you're referencing is partially covered by the ChannelExclusivity field, which shows if it's multi-channel or single-channel. I haven't given this a try, but perhaps StoreId could be of help in this case. As for local versus online, that can be found in the Shopping Performance Report under Channel. Both ChannelExclusivity and Channel are also available in the Product Partition Report under ProductGroup. ProductGroup comes back as a long string that happens to contain these values.

Hi, Nadine

I agree that the POG scenario is not called out, which is the reason for my post. We don't have any customers live with POG yet, so I can't test this myself unfortunately and need to get answer from you guys. Let me try to simplify my question:

If I have a live POG ad, someone clicks on it, and I then run an ad performance report. What value will show up for clickType?

The ad performace report already has specific values for online, local, multi-channel ads, promotions, etc. I expect that it has one for POG too. The most complete documentation I've found so far is https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6275309?hl=en.

Thanks,
Hans

Hello Hans,

I've found that new features can be a bit sparse on documentation as well. Let's see if I can clear things up.

QUESTION: If I have a live POG ad, someone clicks on it, and I then run an ad performance report. What value will show up for clickType?
ANSWER: The ClickType will be PRODUCT_LISTING_AD_CLICKS. It will be lumped in with all the other types product listing ads. I'm sure you already noticed in the ValueTrack documentation that  pla_with_POG is defined as "if the click is coming from a Purchases on Google-enabled Product Listing Ad". Even though it's a specialized product listing ad, the ClickType will still come out to be the generic PRODUCT_LISTING_AD_CLICKS.

I was mentioning all the other options because my understanding was that you wanted to break down product listing ads into smaller groups in order to just get back stats on purchases on Google.

Hope that helps,

Hi, Nadine

Thanks for being patient with me. This is the first ad type I've come across that does not had a corresponding clicktype in the ad performance report, so I was sure there had to be one. Looks like I was wrong. Have you heard of any plans for adding this? It does surprise me that it's available as a value track, but not in the report.

Hello Hans,

Purchases on Google is a fairly new feature. I've noticed that sometimes reporting can lag a bit behind; that's also the case with the API. I haven't heard of any plans for adding this. There are a few items in ValueTrack that are not available in the reports. There are some people who just link their accounts with Google Analytics, use Google Analytics to do analysis on their ValueTrack parameters, and use the Google Analytics API to pull that data.

As far as I can tell, this is now available in the ad performance report as follows:

clickType="Shopping ad - Sell on Google"

Hello all,

I see this data in performance reports now, but it doesn't appear in the enums in the documentation, so we can't filter for it.

Does anyone know what the enum value is or if this is not available yet in the API?

Thanks!

Hi Charlie,

That enum is indeed missing. Our team is currently working on adding it. I'll post back here when it's ready to go.
