The Liberty Prairie Foundation will offer the Be a Better Farm Boss: How to Manage and Motivate Your Farm Team workshop from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wed., Feb. 17 at the University of Illinois Extension office in Grayslake. The registration fee is $40 per person and $20 per additional person from the same family or farm, which includes lunch. Online registration is in the event section of www.libertyprairie.org.

Good management can make the difference between making headway on your farm’s work, or just creating headaches. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to create a productive, positive work environment by communicating clear expectations and implementing systems for efficiency and accountability. Practical tools will be shared to increase employee satisfaction and productivity, remove emotion from management decisions, and build a team culture.

The Feb. 17 Be a Better Farm Boss workshop will be led by farmer and educator Chris Blanchard. As the owner and operator of Rock Spring Farm since 1999, Chris raised twenty acres of vegetables, herbs, and greenhouse crops, marketed through a 200-member year-round CSA, food stores, and farmers markets. He has also worked as packing house manager, plant breeding assistant, farm manager, and consultant for a major organic processor.

Chris’ workshops have gained a reputation for fresh approaches, down-to-earth information, and honesty. He is dedicated to helping farmers and their farm businesses through his consulting, speaking, and writing. His popular Farmer to Farmer Podcast shares the big ideas and practical details that go into making a farm work including soil fertility, record-keeping, and getting crops to market.

The University of Illinois Extension office is located at 100 Route 45 in Grayslake. From I-94 north, exit Route 120 west, then turn north at Route 45. For additional workshop information and online registration visit the event section of www.libertyprairie.org.
