Hi, all —
The
Sugar & Spice Summit is an all-day networking event aimed towards helping female undergrads pursue careers in all aspects of the food industry. There is no food-and-farm policy professional in the line-up nor are careers in food-and-farm non-profits on the agenda. But there are some great speakers and successful business women coming, from Greater Chicago and beyond.
Lauren Goldstein, the main organizer, highlights two panels for those of us in the food-and-farm movement: "How Millenials Want to Eat and A Woman's Place is in the Kitchen - both of those panels will include discussion of the ways that the recent push for sustainability and transparency is affecting the restaurant industry."
Sugar & Spice Summit
April 1, 2017 (Saturday)
11:00 - 5:00 PM
Northwestern University - Evanston campus
Harris Hall 1881 Sheridan Road
Pretty close to public transportation (Purple Line Foster stop is closest)
General admission is $30 (includes food)
It should be a great networking opportunity. You never know when something will lead to the next food-and-farm policy project (including a good job).
The primary sponsor of the event is
Spoon University (Northwestern Univ. chapter), an on-line food magazine geared to helping college students craft careers around food, especially journalists, marketers, and event planners. Other event partners are a variety of Northwestern departments, etc.:
School of Communications, the Gender and Sexuality Studies Department, the Office of the President, Northwestern Panhellenic Association, and The Women's Center, Northwestern Hillel.
I’m copying Lauren on this email in case anyone has more questions.
