I just installed CS on an XP machine that has Photoshop 7 on it. I tried to open version 7 PSD files in CS and got the error "Could not complete your request because the layer is not a valid text layer." After some research I tried updating 7 to 7.01. After I updated to 7.01 and opened the PSD file in question then saved it again I still get the error in CS when trying to open the version 7 PSD file.

SUGGESTIONS?

Well, perhaps it is text saved as bitmap. That's not a valid text layer.

Perhaps a bad font? Try changing it and see what happens.

This is turning out to be an issue for me. I am sure it is an issue for others as well.

Just about ALL of the .PSD files I have downloaded from the web for templates of one thing or another give me this error.

This might have been an error in 7, but I didnt notice it and it renders CS basically worthless to me. Is one supposed to keep both 7 and CS loaded at the same time?

I have tried opening it in 7.01 resaving it, then having it open in CS but I get the SAME error on ALL of these .PDF files I have tried that have TEXT in them.

Greg,
Bob suggested that you try to changing the specific font, did you try this?

The next question is, do you have the font on your system? There have been times that I would get this sort of message from a file I had created earlier, but later didn't have the font on my machine. PS would substitute the font nearest to that style for me.

Can you upload a .psd file that is giving you troubles so that one of us can download it and check it out? That might be very helpful in trying to sort this out.

Mhran,

That may be due to going from 7 ME to CS - I can't test because I don't have
7ME, but I cannot reproduce your problem going from PS 7.1 (International
English) to CS (International English)

PS Please do NOT post the same question in Multiple Topics - Your duplicates have been deleted

I'm trying to help another gentleman with this same problem on a different forum. He e-mailed me one of the psd's he was having trouble with, and I was able to open it on my version of CS with no problems. I got that notice that asks you to update your text layers, when I clicked update it worked fine. It seems to just be a problem with the Middle Eastern version of CS.

There are screen shots and such at the following link: <http://www.photoshopforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=985>

Maybe that thread can spark some new ideas. Sorry if it's against the rules to plug other forums.
