Contract Archivist – Manchester Community College (CT)


Duties and Responsibilities

1)      Accessions, processes, inventories and catalogs archives and manuscripts

2)      Maintains word processed finding aids to facilitate access to archives and manuscript collections

3)      Maintains the Manchester Community College’s institutional archives, including preparing retention schedules, accessioning, de-accessioning, and creating finding aids

4)      Makes recommendations as to the supplies needed for preserving and housing archival materials

 

Scope of Work

The contract archivist will provide onsite archives processing services and expertise for approximately 80 hours. The anticipated start date is January 2017. Work schedule will be determined based on the needs and availability of the MCC library staff and contractor; however, the contractor is expected to be onsite during normal business hours (8am to 4pm) for at least half of the total hours contracted. The archivist will perform duties related to the processing of materials added to the MCC College Archives. Additionally, it is expected that the archivist will provide hands on training to MCC library staff in archives best practices.

Qualifications

The Contractor should have a graduate degree in archival studies from an accredited history or library master’s program. Additionally, the Contractor must have:

• Prior experience processing archival collections

• Demonstrated understanding of the archival principles of provenance and original order

• Demonstrated understanding and experience with the archival practices of arrangement and description, and have a working knowledge of DACS standards
