Someone remind me why we have a week between rides? After riding
Saturday a 200 and following that up with a 300 on Tuesday was
defintely not enough time for recovery! Maybe later in the season.
It is a good thing that this ride has some scenic areas but overall it
is boring (its all in the name). So by having my head down for 2/3rds
of the ride did not sacrafice much. The ride was basically survival
mode and finishing in the dark was probably my first for a 300. It
sure felt cold even though it was still 12 degrees but wind will do
that. As I see the snow coming down it makes me wonder how did I get
a sun burn? Anyways 15:10 finshishing time and Pedro, you probably
finshed a time zone ahead of me!

Way to go Dan!
You're way ahead of the Edmonton crew. We're not doing our first 200
until this weekend - then another TWO weeks before I do a three
hundred. You had a two day break in between - I'll have a two week
respite. Hopefully that will be enough for Charlene's 300 route - she
likes to make them hilly!

I am going to look at the route, I have not ridden any rides around
Red Deer for almost 12 years so it will be nice to get back at er
again.

Dan, good job on the Drum 300. No question it was a windy day on the
home stretch.
When I first met the rando crew some six years ago, Don Mankewich
told me it can be a Fool's Game to chase fast times on early
brevets. He advised me to just work on base building and work on
faster times when the weather is better in summer. April brevets
coming off winter commuting or Tour de Basement training is tough
enough. Each are beneficial but cannot adequately prepare one for
ultra cycling. Training in Arizona is the viable option I guess.

Looks like there's been some good early-season participation out
there; good job guys!
I actually enjoyed the Drumheller ride (last year) -- it was a lot
more scenic than I expected and quite enjoyable except for the wind
and the finish into the City. Maybe I just like prairie scenery more
than is healthy ;)
I'll post the results after the official event date...

I enjoyed the ride and was not bored. The headwind on 564 (Strathmore
to Calgary) though grinded my quads down. I had almost 2h 30 min left
leaving Strathmore to finish under 13 hours, but over long stretches
it was hard to make 15 km/h. I think the wind was somewhere between 30
and 40 km/h.....and that for almost 3 hours. I was happy when arrived.
My time was 13h 16 min. I am sending Mike photos and the GPS data
(total elevation gain is 1602m, the climb out of Drumheller is about
100 m altitude with up to 8% grade, average around 5%). I am not sure
whether it works but will try it again if I don't see it on the
website by Friday.

Glad to hear that Peter and Dan had such successful rides this week. I am still torn on wether I am doing this ride SAturday or going out next Friday. I will be deciding Friday evening. The roads looked pretty good this afternoon, they seem to be teasing me. I plan to do the ride either way. If anyone wants to join me let me know.

I was talking to Terry and he's up for the ride on Friday also; that makes 3 of us for sure. The weather gods aren't to promising for next week, but it is still early, I am sure the weather will change by then (I hope).
