1. Objectives
2. Dates and Locations
3. Estimated Number of Participants: 700 high school students and chaperones
4.Organization
5. Qualification for Applicants
(1) U.S. nationality;
(2) 9th-12th graders aged between 14 to 18 (including current 8th graders and 12th graders);
(3) Mother tongue is not Chinese, with a basic knowledge and skills of Chinese language, learning Chinese for less than three years;
(4)Be interested in learning Chinese language and culture;
(5)Healthy enough for international traveling.
(1) Qualification
a. Respect and understand Chinese culture;
b.Capable and reliable in coordinating and communicating with participants;
c.Teaching in K-12 schools for at least one year
d.Experience in supervising and working with students
e.Healthy enough for international traveling.
(2) Responsibilities
a. Assist Confucius Institute in offering a pre-departure orientation;
b. Escort students in all summer camp activities and follow all requirements;
c. Be responsible for program management and students’ safety in China during the program;
d. Help students adjust themselves to new living environment with timely advice;
e. Accompany students in any emergency situation and remain contact with representatives from Hanban, local host schools, Confucius Institute at SF State, and parents of the student;
f. Collect feedback from participants and submit a program report to Confucius Institute at SF State one week after returning from China.
6.Application and Approval
(1)Student applicant: Application Form / Recommendation Letter from applicant’s teacher
(2)Chaperone applicant: Application Form / Resume
(1) Health Statement Forms (required):
a. Personal Health Statement – 2 pages;
b. Physician’s Statement – 1 page;
(2) Permission for Emergency Treatment Form (required);
(3) Consent and Release Agreement (required);
(4) Air Travel Release and Hold-Harmless Statement (required);
(5)Guidelines and Rules of Conduct (required);
(6)Photocopy of the inside page (the photo page) of your passport (required).
7.Visa Application
Participants are responsible for visa application at Chinese Consulate in San Francisco. The following should be sent to the Chinese Consulate in SF before June 7 in order to get your visa and passport back before June 14:

8. Cost
(a) Application fee of $200 (Please make a check payable to: CI at SF State; It is not refundable upon application approval by Hanban.)
(b) Round-trip international air ticket costs
(c) International travel insurance
(d) Visa fees
9. The Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban reserves the right to interpret all requirements and program proposal for this summer camp.
