FYI for a bit of inspiration.... found something called TagSpaces at tagspaces.org ...take a look for sake of some good ideas.

Yeah, this is a super cool peace of software. I use it for almost two years now to tag my documents for my attempt to realize a paperless office. Right now it looks very good and I do not need any database to find my stuff, just good old recoll plus it syncs my tags to every device.

I really like the look and feature set of TagSpaces, but the non-cloud aspect keeps me from using it. I switch between multiple devices and being online and offline, so I need something that is cloud-based. That's one of the primary reasons I am using TiddlyWiki - I can take it offline and resync to a master server. But yes, TagSpaces is a really slick piece of software with impressive features and good execution. I'm definitely looking at it for my own future ideal note-taking and organization software.

Well, I think there was a node version as well and the synchronization can be done by some third party apps like Syncthing.

I use Tiddlywiki for my note taking and knowledge collection and tagspaces for document management. I think this way I can profit from the strengths of each software.
