Hi there fellow poa members. I have a P42 with 16" dia 10 pitch prop. I recently changed to a 16" x 8. The 8 pitch is too small and without enough bite. With the old one I could get about hull speed but ran hotter when pushing harder. Ie would overheat and blow black smoke, a sign of over propped or dirty bottom. Could run all day at 2350 and 185, 5.5 kts. Used to be able to run 6.5 kt at the 2350. Before I change back to 10 pitch I wanted to get some feedback from Perkins and fixed prop boats. Does not matter p40 or p 42 with the Perkins and a fixed prop. Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks

Fellow passport owners
I am selling my Passport 40 CHEAP.  I am getting to old to care for her.  She needs work but she sails just fine.  I have never had problems with the motor (VW diesel), the floor, the hull.
I will consider all offers.  I WAS asking $35k.
She is hull number "8".  She now lies in moorage in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Please respond if interested

Allen,
Noted and thanks.  A couple of others.  I changed the raw water strainer and put in a huge one.  Old one was frozen and plugged.  Now running 2400, 5.5 and 160 degrees, too cold.  Temp dropped 30 degrees from prior to haul out.

Thanks

This may not help but
I have a perky with an autoprop so not easy to compare with maxiprop etc but I run at 1800 RPM for days on end with out problem (T=180).speed 5.5k (depends on sea state, winds etc of course) at 2000 temp up to 190 and speed at 6k.
Things to think aobut: how accurate is your tachy? can check with a strobe. How clean is your heat exchanger? Also 2350 seems a bit high for a Perky
