Long time reader, first time poster. Who can direct me to some good introductory material on PH retrofits? Looking at re-skinning and re-glazing a house on Capital Hill that I think would be a good candidate for a deep energy retrofit. The owner is open to the idea and the builder is educated about the concepts but skeptical. Who's had some experience in this?

Matt,
We are nearing the end of a retrofit here in Portland.   We did an addition to help pay for it all, but are happy to talk with you, the builder or your clients if it would be helpful.
I don't have any completed literature on the project just yet.   We pieced things together through the network connections, Lstebrick book, and websites, but are working on a presentation of the project to offer in the next few months.
Are you taking off the roof as well?    I know that the connection from wall to roof is a tricky one for retrofits.
Let me know if we can help in any way.   Best of luck!

Matt,
I have retrofit my own home to Passive House performance, and I am willing to share my experience.  We learned a few things along the way.  There is little introductory materials specifically for PH retrofits of our typical 2X4 stud wall construction, but many of the new Passive House exterior insulation systems are easily adapted.  There is extensive research on PH retrofits in Europe ("EnerPHit"), but most of it is for masonry structural walls.  And the Passive House community in New York City has EnerPHIts down to a system for brick brownstones, but I suspect that will not help you.  We super-insulated almost all walls to the outside, but did one on both sides and two more insulated to the inside.   There are a number of options for the wall/roof connection.  In our experience, the foundation/floor/wall connections was the most challenging.  Best luck.  tad.everhart[at]comcast[dot]net

Hello Matt,
We met briefly in your office back in November.  I shared information about the Code Innovations Database, the NW EcoBuilding Guild's resource for sharing technical permitting precedents and other information about hi-performance building innovations.  Tad Everhart's "FutureFit" of his home is the subject of 3 case studies in the Database - not re: the insulation that Tad mentioned, but the HVAC and plumbing ventilation systems, so you might want to refer to these:
