Hey all,
So I just met with a rep yesturday from Joto (
https://usa.joto.com/ ) and they are bringing over this product called
Joto-Vent which is a sill vent for crawlspaces that apparently has been
used successfully in Japan for about 40 years. It's basically a length
of corrugated plastic that replaces your sill sealer as seen in the pictures below. Because it separates the sill from the stem wall, you don't need to use pressure treated lumber for your sill. It also provides about 3.92 in2 of net free ventilation area per linear foot of product. It also comes with a preformed and pre-painted flashing with ventilation holes that meet the bug-screen requirements. This metal flashing provides a really nice looking datum line at the bottom of your siding.
I wanted to see if anyone else has heard of this product and what do you think of it? I like the idea of getting rid of the through-wall vents (I know these go away with a un-vented crawlspace but humor me for a minute) and creating a shadow-line at the base of the building to add a nice visual interest. I was wondering if these would over-ventilate the crawlspace (if that is even a problem) or if anyone sees other issues with them? Because they run continuous around the sill, you do get great airflow coverage without any dead-zones.
Thoughts?
