We have always told the teachers that they need to fill in both columns percent and score when posting grades, as well as if they are giving a letter grade (incomplete or satisfactory) that they need to erase the percent column. This is how it has always been sense before I had taken over IC can someone please explain to me the reasons behind this and how it effects grading etc. I am new this year to this part of the job.

Thank you!
Katie

You always need a numeric grade in the percent column if you want the term grades to calculate into a semester or final grade.  The system can't do math on A's and B's, and that column doesn't participate in calculation even if you put a number in there.

So the grade drop down box doesn't actually feed in to anything? Percent is really where the calculations come from.

That is my understanding.  The grade box is designed to support just about any kind of mark to appear on a report card.  A,B,C,D.  E,M,P,D. etc.

I always think of it this way - the percent column calculates, the grade column prints on the report card.
