Does anybody know when we will be updating to 1601?

Currently we ask all our Special Ed staff to always use Safari with IC because the Adobe plug-in on a Mac with Chrome, will always corrupt FDFs.

But apparently in 1601 Safari will also corrupt FDF's unless we disable the plugin (see message from support below), and while there is a work-around offered, we will almost certainly end up corrupting a bunch of forms while our staff try are figuirng out the workaround.

It also looks like this is an issue that IC thinks they can fix, and as Maine is not on 1601 yet - I think it would be great if we wait for a fix before advancing IC to 1601...  How many other districts would be adversely affected by this?  Or is there a better way to do FDF's on a Mac that we should be adopting?

Issue Alert – Campus.1601 - Internet Explorer and Safari Adobe Plug-In causing Corrupt FDFs

ISSUE ALERT:  Districts on Campus.1601 and using Internet Explorer or Safari, if you have the Adobe Reader Plug-In enabled, FDF documents that are opened and saved will be corrupted and unable to be opened.  Users that attempt to open the file will receive a large “Error in FDF” message and the file will not open.

WORKAROUND: Users on Campus.1601 need to disable the Adobe Reader Plug-In and open the file with Adobe Reader outside of the browser window in all browsers.

https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-in-browser.html#id_48998

Instructions to disable Adobe Reader Plug-In on Internet Explorer:

  • Click the settings Gear icon in the upper right hand corner of the browser
  • Select Manage Add-ons
  • Change the Show Drop down to All add-ons or run without permission
  • Find Adobe PDF Reader in the list and make sure it is disabled

Instructions to disable Adobe Reader Plug-In on Safari:

  • Go to File > Find > search for Terminal
  • Open the Terminal and type in the following: defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES
  • Click Enter and close the Terminal window

This issue is being actively worked by Campus Development as SIS-92319 and we are expecting an RX Pack to be delivered as soon as possible to allow users to resume using the Adobe Reader Plug-In.  We are also looking to resolve the issues with the corrupted files once that fix is available.

Thanks for sharing Tonya.

That will save our Special Ed department a significant amount of panic... and save me a significant amount or "workaround" testing.
