cannot call method newHttpRequest

I am trying to get api explorer working and getting following error:

com.google.gwt.core.client.JavaScriptException: (TypeError): Cannot
call method 'newHttpRequest' of undefined at
com.google.gwt.dev.shell.BrowserChannelServer.invokeJavascript(BrowserChannelServer.java:
248)

Has the injection script changed

looking at the injection script it seems to have a
googleapis.ApiService.makeHttpRequest instead of
googleapis.newHttpRequest
and googleapis doesnt even seem to get assigned to $wnd though it does
seem to be present as window.googlesapis

is this stuff being maintained?
