I am more likely than most people to suffer a heart attack or stroke. So I am considering medical emergency products. I remember seeing previous discussions on this topic, and I would appreciate any information.

Thanks,

Hello Rafi Haftka,

There is line of devices I might consider, from a company called "GreatCall". (https://www.greatcall.com)

The various "GreatCall" devices have a built-in cell phone, that would greatly increase your chance of contacting somebody in in a short amount of time during an emergency health event. It also has a GPS so it knows your location. These devices would generally work as long as: Your location during the emergency has cell phone coverage, your device is charged, you are wearing your alert device, and you are conscious long enough to make the emergency call.

Once your device is set up, the only required maintenance is setting the device in the charger at night, and making sure that the device is worn on your person during the day. I have personally used the "GreatCall Splash" device. It seems to work as far as making test calls to the monitoring center. Service prices for the "splash" start at $20 per month. The splash also has a feature that if you hold the button down for 5 seconds (instead of pressing it normally), it will directly call 911 instead of the GreatCall monitoring center. You can customize your "emergency profile" for these devices, including adding family members and cryonics providers that you would wish to have notified in the event of an emergency.

Warm regards,
Blake

Keep an eye out in this group:

Ben (Best)  has a list of candidate devices and services listed at: http://www.benbest.com/cryonics/alarms.html

I do have a combination of a heart rate monitor by name mio-alpha (worn on the wrist watch ) and a smart phone app that I wrote which will trigger of smses (with GPS co-ordinate) and phone calls to 3 people. I do not think it is battle ready. Ben (Best) had his mio-alpha malfunction when it came to the wireless Bluetooth connection to his smart phone. Among other drawbacks the mio-alpha is a fitness heart rate monitor - not something that i thing would fit our purposes. My next step, when the time is ready would be to port my app to tiny watch phones with heart rate monitors that are worn on the wrist. Right now watch phones IMO are not yet  mature enough product for me to port my app.

Also, unsolicited advice (an alive cryonicist is more valuable than a dead one - so I'll take a chance even if some of you reading this will think it's ridiculous) which is opposite to mainstream wisdom when it comes to typical heart health:
1) Eat plenty of saturated fat. Avoid the polyunsaturate fat. (corn, soybean, canola oil.)
2) Avoid the starches (usually grains/rice/wheat). I'm not entirely sure where the tubers stand.
