After noting that many of the methods of accessing Music and the Spoken Word over the internet rely on non-accessible Flash based websites the Commonwealth Braille & Talking Book Cooperative has arranged to offer these broadcasts in an accessible way at http://www.cbtbc.org/tmp/msw/

This site should work with both computer based browsers as well as on phones. Please give it a try and let me know what you think.

This is awesome. Thanks for doing this.

Couple questions, who encodes the files? If you folks do, what is your source for the audio? What's the bitrate?

Thanks again!

I did not see any files on the site. There is a pop up button, but I can't see files under it. Am I missing something?

you should see a popup menu with two files in it, one for each program I have in the system. Can you tell me what sort of device you are using? OS and so on? Thank you.

Good afternoon Greg just wanted to thank you for making these
brodcasts available in accessable format.
I have most all ways been in sacrament meeting or one of the other
meetings at the time the brodcasts have been shown live because I am
in the eastern time zone.

The central point in all of this is that there is no reason at all to ever use Flash for audio like this. Flash isn't accessible and there are many means to provide audio over the internet which are. While this site is perhaps the simplest example, and was in fact done to show just how simple it cold be done it is by far not the only way to do this.

Church websites and those sites associated with the Church such as the choir site. Should be accessible, it is simple to do so. This site took me less than an hour to code for both computers and mobile devices. It is neither costly nor time consuming it is simply good practice.

Any way to let the Church people know this?

Just my thoughts here I agree with the fact that all of the church
websites need to be better accessable for sure.
But I am thinking they get to hung up in the vissuel aspects of things
just my thoughts.

Good accessibility and good visual practice are compatible. Nothing I have done here would impact visual presentation. Indeed I as trained as a designer and typographer.

Greg,

Any chance these MP3 files can be downloaded so we can put them on our
digital book player? Thanks.

Greg,
I'm sorry but I don't understand what to do when I go to this Webb site. I'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to things like this. Can I listen and how?
Thank you, and we will be off our Mission Feb. 13. It's been wonderful!

Each show is a simple link click on the link and the MP3 file should, in most modern browsers and devices, start to play or present you with a control to start the playback. You can also right click on the link and download the MP3 file. They are just simple links that is all.

On phones they are presented as a popup list of shows, select the one you want and it will be loaded into your phone's browser ready to play.

Great question Sherri-
For the Mormon Tabernacle Choir website there are lots of ways you can
reach out and talk to someone about the accessibility problems on their
site. Here is there contact page with phone numbers and links to their
social websites where they can be contacted:
