Time to replace the genoa furling line. Is there a Rule of Thumb or common sense way to figure out the correct length without having the line off of the drum?

Depends on to headsails you intend to use as from a jib to genekar they all have different foot lengths so the furling line needs to be long enough with still a few turns to furl the sail with the longest foot with enough to have the clew rotate around the forestay at least once

Thought it might be something like that. I estimated 30' for on deck from the furling drum to to the helm position across the cockpit, added 10' for turns on the drum and a tail at the line keeper (rounding up widely in both cases, better that it be too long rather than too short), with another 18' for the new 155 Genoa = 58". Bought 60' of 1/4" sta-set x. Could be just dumb luck, but turned out right. Measured length of old furling line was 60'.
