BVI charters.  

Can anyone recommend where is best to charter a monohull in the BVI?   Is Moorings the way to go or are there more affordable options?

We have used moorings and they have new clean boats, you can negotiate prices with there specials. Other members from my yacht club has used horizons and they were satisfied 

Also sunsail is managed by the same agent as moorings. 

Enjoy its a great experience

I believe Footloose uses the boats that have been retired from the Moorings fleet. Older, but cheaper. May be an option if latest and greatest is not a priority. We've got a charter mid 2017 with TMM. Got a great deal at the last Annapolis show and got to board the same boat we'll be chartering. It's a cat, so not sure that counts.

I have a 2008 b49 in New York.   It has the dripless shaft.  There is a small hose that connects to the unit presumably to provide minimal water for lubrication.  Does anyone know if there is anything special I should do to winterize this system?   Note that the boat is being stored in the water this winter.

I have 2009 B 49 , but I am in Texas and don't have to worry about winterizing, but the hose you talking about its intake  is from the engine raw water discharge.  I assume if you close the seacock to the engine raw water intake and evacuate the water it is all you can do. Your shaft tube  still would have some water in it intering through your cutless bearing.

When I installed the dripless seal in “Miranda” it came with a +/- 1/4” diameter hose fitting on the 

top to which was installed a hose in a vertical orientation and terminated above the water line.

At that time ATN furnished them to avoid an air lock inside the bellows.  The water is needed to cool

the bearing surface. Before then they had no hose fitting and de airing was accomplished by “burping” the

bellows with a good squeeze after splashing.  Forget to "burp” and you may well cook the seal assembly.

It should also prevent the water from suctioning in the seal after putting her on stands that could

lead to a frozen seal.
