Hello everyone!

We own a 2014 Beneteau Oceanis 45, out of Annapolis, MD

I'm commissioning her for the summer, and noticed something strange.  The raw water output for the A/C system is not as strong as it used to be.  Closing some of the seacocks improved the output volume to one A/C unit somewhat, but no where near what I remember it from previous years.

I think the constant use in the Chesapeake has led some "biologicals" to take up residence in the A/C plumbing.

Does anyone have any experience cleaning out the raw-water system?  I think I can do it myself, but thought getting some expert advice would be a good place to start.

Thanks, in advance!

Cheers,
Jonathan Baker

Step 1: have you checked the strainer(s)?

Going forward, consider either bromide tablets (pool supplies) or copper scraps in the strainer(s) to minimize growth.

Someone also recommend "MrayKate" cleaner run thru the compressor.
No personal experience.

I used Ridline to clean, then Bromine from a spa Hot tub in the strainer every other month works great, no issues, nothing is worse than Baltimore harbor.

We have an OC 45 (Hull # 125;  "Wildflower III") in South Florida.  We had to de-scale the a/c system after the boat had been in the water 7 months.  We have 3 a/c unit (forward cabin, main cabin & aft cabins)  They were over heating --the coils were very hot to touch.  Descaling consisted of closing both the intake and outflow seacocks and putting the descaling solution (see West Marine catalog or web site) in a bucket and running a continuous loop through the a/c.  A similar procedure would be used to de-scale the raw water system of the engine.

Check the strainer under the steps for clogging. Then bleed each of the cooling lines, first after the water pump under the steps and then before each compressor. The aft compressor is tough because of limited space, so do the other two first and see if water flow improves. When a compressor is running, the water pump sends cooling water to each compressor and it comes out each of the three outlets on the starboard side of the hull. If that fails, then you may need to run a chemical through the lines to get the scaling out. I have a Oceanis 45, hull 084.
