Opendro has crossed 2611 miles.

And Lael Wilcox a super lady from Alaska is leading the Trans AM. She has over taken Steffen and has only 54 miles to complete the race. She has 19 miles lead over Steffen.

Amazing women power !!!! she has been averaging 236 miles per day.. Hats off!!!

So, many things to fight against.. Weather, flat tires, GPS failures and then this...

"What happened next stunned all that were watching.  When Steffen awoke at 2AM, he began pedaling backward along the route.  He was riding right towards Lael!  She had closed the gap to 20 miles, and the two were now racing toward each other".

Incredible, and must have been truly heart-rending. He's been leading the race ever since Sarah Hammond lost the lead due to a GPS error, on day 4 or 5. Indeed, one must overcome everything and have an answer to every challenge that comes one's way, in order to be able to win.

In the meanwhile, Opendro is in the process of setting us all a benchmark to dream about/hope for/aspire for/get inspired by, and we owe him a lot of appreciation for that effort. Following in his footsteps (or tire-tracks!) may not be any easier physically, but mentally, the knowledge that another of our own has done it earlier, is a tremendous strength multiplier.

And Wilcox wins, making history! It also serves to bury her disappointment of getting disqualified due to deviation from the set course at the Tour Divide, last year. What an achievement!

Yesterday was quite exciting, with three riders finishing. The Trans Am Bike Race facebook page even had live videos of the finish line, and it was quite a feeling to see the riders trooping in. I'm so looking forward to seeing Opendro on the screen! More strength to him!

Yeah... quite an achievement by Lael Wilcox.  What awesome athletes, these.  Interesting bit about Steffen riding backwards, or Sarah facing GPS issues... wow.

Good to know Opendro is continuing to knock out the kms.  More power to him.
