Post March showers, cool breeze and cloudy sky, trees in flowery bloom and Carnatic music from bandstand ....
Mini heaven in Cubbon Park !!
Four newbies... Mayank, Namita ( accompanied by daughter Malvika and Arya, cute pet bitch. M&A soon trotted towards the kennel corner ! )
Asmita and Ashwati (with hubby Jishnu) completing the count.
Sachin and Vimal came in and work began..but soon.. there was little to do..!!
Namita had done plenty of riding in past so..she found it as difficult as...a duck taking to the water !! She flew off soon..
Asmita and Ashwati got going in no time, Ashwati was really zooming ! Mayank too was independently riding before we got through...
There was a cute father + sons 'triputi' to make us smile with their sportiness !
Seniors included Wilma, excellent riding but needs to work on uphill starts. She had a go at standing start too.Suhasini ventured on to the road (within cubbon park) for the first time and promptly paid a bump tax ! Prashant was there too, sharpening his control skills.
Jishnu helped out with clicks and we bid good bye to each other with hope to meet again next weekend and myself with excitement of tandem-ferrying foldie while riding ladybird...!!
Sunday with Ugadi ,with light traffic, made it just comfortable enough..!.

Cubbon park session report :
15 K ride :
8 riders..Special guest was Rajani, Kiran's better half. Tushar, his friend Akhil, Gangesh and Praveen with Ali and Vimalkumar completed the group.
We had a very very late start...6. 55 am, so decided to split into comfort zone groups, in order to keep regular teaching session in time. Tushar, Akhil and Ali took off. Rajani and Kiran accompanied Gangesh. Vimalkumar decided to take Praveen around Cubbon park only.
Considering we almost thought of calling the ride off..Not too bad !!
Teaching session :
This was a cracker of a show...!
For the first time since roster has come alive, EVERYONE who had registered, turned up ! and some more, who had not registered !!
Wow !! Thanks folks..You guys rock !
Volunteers wise, Sachin was the surprise..And truly a saviour !! Vimalkumar was delayed, attending to Praveen.. Sastha joined too, with Shital, later.
5 Newbies :Nabarun, Bhoomika, Payal, Pranav and Hrithik. Last two, local recruits, were tiny tots, so no sweat ; Nabarun was another story ! Strong muscular lurching hulk...Sachin had his work cut out !! Bhoomika and Payal did well and should not have problems
Seniors included Namita, Little Diya with mom and dad, Aswathi(+Jishnu ), Asmita, Prashant, Mayank, Sneha, Paulomi, and Megha with her brand new Btwin Rockrider, a persuasive gift from guess-who !! Vimal adjusted the saddle height and she got into the swing straight away ! All seniors were doing fairly well at different levels of learning curve...
15 K riders, Rajani, Kiran,Gangesh Praveen along with Shital added extra zing to the festivities and time just flew.. the group snaps and brief analysis of each student's progress and we dispersed, Paulomi getting last briefing from Vimalkumar..

Cubbon Park:
The usual beautiful greenery with flower carpets to welcome you with bandstand music !!
Raji was there...( Dad helped with the banners !) and 5 teachers !!
Apart from Vimalkumar , Anandita and myself, Ajay and Gaurav were the surprise appearances !
Anandita started with Raji on foldie meanwhile Nabarun with Debashree came, having just completed decathlon 5 K run ! Real sportsters ..
She had learnt previously balancing and just needed refreshing dormant skill.. and improve roadworthiness while Nabarun was happy with his braking, balance also getting better.
Ajith Shalini with Aadarsh trooped in with Ajith overseeing Shalini's progress.
Raman was third newbie and was a natural ...Doing upslope return on his own..
Diya with Dad Abhi and mom formed her own learning unit ! Getting very confident now ...
Namita joined in a bit, to further her controls, left her cap !
Little Avani, fourth newbie, came with mom dad and Grandmom Yashoda, who impressed everyone by very sportingly doing a round on foldie and gave Avani a groove to move in.
Kastubha was fifth fresher and Poorvi was 6th, she actually will begin next weekend.
Prashanth and Manjushree completed the senior's list .

Seniors : Farooq came with Oomar and Afreen, who had a brush with railing while riding and now sports a stitched scar on her arm .. love her fortitude to come back ! Oomar, taller by at least couple of inches, is proud owner of a Btwin MyRide !..Well done !
Gangesh, Prashanth, Suhasini Asmita and Raman were other seniors, Suhasini, missed out on rides due to fewer cycles today....! Asmita and SriLatha, who had tried earlier, managed standing starts today... Liti came in late so just had a very cursory encounter ! Pallavi rode after 8 years..And proved skills don't go away !
Fatima was the most popular person of the day..With sweets for all and the session ended with group photo for the memories !!
Vimalkumar continued with Sujata for a bit more and finally we parted with promise to meet up for Nandi Hill ride coming saturday 4 am.

Three students, fresher's all and all seem to have learnt balancing...Excellent work by Amar and the girls, Priya, Shivani and Shilpy.!! Well done !
Amar's advice for them is to cycle on their own; I would suggest to take few more lessons, especially safe stopping, turns, hand signals etc. before being going onto roads..
Cubbon Park :
Definitely warmer than earlier, but still pleasant.. and soothing Carnatic music flowing from Bandstand.. and your Sunday is to a great start !
Sujata's second session and Vrishti's first. Both still not balancing well, both lurching and both letting right leg fly off at slightest hint of being off balance !!
To girls' credit, much improved by the end though. Vimalkumar joined in to help..Devi was another newbie and seemed to get the act going with less effort..
Seniors included Udita, who came to pass on the mach and Afreen took it. Great thing was, Udita managed to ride in from Victoria lay out ...Well done !
Raman, Afreen, Prashant, Suhasini were other seniors. Komala , Devi's sister in law, went for a round on the foldie and hopes to improve other facets ..Welcome next weekend !
Devi's brother Babu and Hubby Umesh obliged with the customary session and photo..
We (vimalkumar myself and Raman) had a surprise project video session by a Srishti student, Poornima, about ageism and Bangalore Bicycling School...Go figure !

PS : who has got the Hero bicycle Miss India, of Ganesh, ? it needs to be circulated amongst new learners so the lessons is translated into practice, as Amar has so rightly pointed out !
Let us also know who wants to take the bike.. transfer should be at teaching centre to see the state of bike. Before bringing please get it checked by Local cycle shop to see it is roadworthy and safe. Onus is on the previous borrower !

Amar had Krishna sree as new student, Avik as intermediate level and Raman and Ashish as senior student-cum-teacher category!
They had a nice time, going by the superb end of session click here !
Cubbon park report :
Lovely cloudy start of a warm summer day..Today, the band stand had soothing Carnatic folk songs with soulful music accompanying to take heart to !
Vimalkumar, Sastha and myself made up the teaching side,
4 new students...First to arrive was V Harish, with dad to keep company. Slow and steady ... So is bound to win !
Second was Gaurav, with age and lightness on his side, he almost got it today, but not quite !
Aashka, a passer-by, asked, hesitated a bit, and finally took the plunge today itself ! She is natural and got the balance fine ... May need couple of more sessions for controls.
Fourth newbie, 15 min before curtains, was Valentina, bundle of energy ! Again, not quite safe to go on her own, but nearly there !
Amongst seniors,
Anjali came after a break of a year, and had a useful session for getting into rhythm. Prashanth Manjushree and Asmita were the only other seniors today. Prashant learnt mashing ( standing pedalling ) today ! Chandrakala and her son Yeshwant dropped in to say hello. Yeshwant, ? Hardly 14-15, riding "two wheeler" was matter of pride to her, but worry to me ! Told her so.
Fatima treated us to cool mango juice from Hopcoms and we said good byes, not before saying hello to Sunil KG, from Go Green group !
Next week is month end 15 K road introduction ride , sunday 29th, 6 am sharp at usual place, for students who can balance, brake safely but reluctant to venture into Bengaluru traffic.... Join us, we hope to break ice for you !

Cubbon Park was the only centre today !
Music was flowing from the Bandstand as usual ...
Only Asmita from the newbies with Kiran and Rajani also joined me and we started much later than anticipated... Asmita was good, but magic box did the exhaustion trick on her and we returned from there, a decent 10 km ride ! Stopping needs to get better but she braved traffic well !
Regular students were getting worked up meanwhile....Anjali, Valentina were already there..Fortunately, Ajith was there and started teaching , Arya, his niece was first newbie, picked up very well. Manushi was the other one, from casual passer bys. Both of them did good for first timers Harish, Devi, Prashant, Manjushri , Anjali and lastly Manasvini, who got lost a bit trying to reach, formed the senior team... Without regular volunteers to help, Harshvardhan was literally, a God-send.. who chipped in taking care of Anjali. Prshant also gave helping hand.
Wrapped up early and so was not a satisfying session for some students...Apologies particularly to Harish !

[06/05 10:32] Sneha Abraham Cycling: I'm really happy today.. 2 sessions and now i ride cycle!! all thanks to Amar for his lessons, support and encouragement. Also to Vimal who was there during my first session. ☺☺
The girl gang (Krishnasree, Sraddha and myself) - everyone's second session and now we confidently ride the cycle. We supported each other and achieved it together; along with Amar and Jimmy.

Cubbon Park :
Summer in Namma Bengaluru is like a little spoilt brat...Gets up to mischief, till mom pacifies with a cookie..! Mother Nature has perfect cookie, The Rain !!
We had 6 newbies .... Bhuvana, Vinolia, Haldar, Sudhish, Prerana and Sumalatha.
Must include Ajith as a teacher volunteer apart from Vimalkumar Anindita and myself...He was so good !
Bhuvana was toast of the day...A natural. Learnt standing start before the session was over !! Well done !
Vinolina had learnt previously and so not a newbie to cycling....Was doing figure of 8 comfortably soon enough. As Ani puts it..."She is a long distance material !"
Prerana's youth carried her comfortably to easy balancing
Sumalatha, Haldar got over initial fears and soon will be balancing on their own...fundas are good.
Challenge of the day was Sudhish. Unable to hear or speak, his determination to learn cycling is so inspiring, at the same time, practically so frustrating !! Vimal kumar needs all praise for taking up the gauntlet !!
7 Seniors included Harish, Manasvini, Monisha, Mayank, Suhasini, Arya (with hand injury, so did not ride much ) and Babloo and Neha's mom Aparna.
Manasvini was taken over by Anindita (aamar sonar Bangla !)..
Harish is slowly getting over the fear, but feet keep flying off towards comfort of Terra Firma at slightest excuse! Monisha is good, so is Mayank..Aparna was concentrating on hand signals and doing well...
Another newbie, Deepika came in but I had to excuse in view of time limitation...
Hopefully we will see her next weekend....
And other friends from this and other sessions too !!
Special thanks to Devi's family for keeping water bottle (my first one, so kinda got attached to it !) safe, from last sunday !...
I had given up on it !
You don't ... on cycling !

Today was/is World Bicycle day !!
Sunday BBSch report back on the road...!
Three centres taught today :
1.Cubbon Park:
Awaiting Ganesh's report but Leena and Sindhu seem to be a new students..Sindhu seems to have cracked pedalling already and doing good.
Most heartening was seeing early bird Harish pedalling on his own...Well done !
2.Marathalli :
Amar had a great session with Meghana, Archana, Krishna and Shakti turning up.

[03/06 13:47] Krishna Sanjay Cycling: Today's class in Marathahalli was awesome. Thanks to sir I could learn a lot in a single day! All from initial techniques to balancing the cycle. Though I can travel short stretches, I have learnt the basics of riding. Through practice I can surely travel longer distances. So thanks a lot Amar Sir for teaching me how to ride! Will look forward to upcoming classes :)

3.Sanjay Nagar :
This was our first teaching in North Bangalore and I thank Anindita and Ajith for backing up Nrithika's call to do this maiden session on World Bicycle Day.
My special thanks to Vijay for providing myself and Fatima lift all the way and back home in his car over and above the free rental cycles and logistics at the venue ..Just too good..Respects !!

Met Satya, our first bicycling mayor for the first time, and Nrithika and their lads, Jay and Raj too. Their dedication to the social causes is so inspiring !
Manju and Poonam were first timers although Poonam had learnt way back and needed moral support only, with Ajith in charge. Manju was good, balanced and turning too under Anindita's stewardship. Nrithika is gaining confidence rapidly and improved her braking and balancing.
Finding bike for Suma was a challenge ! She finally managed couple of rounds on "Paediatric" bike !
We ended with a photograph with the Mayor Satya and went over to
Ashlesha's place for drink and cookies before calling it a day !

Reporting after full 2 months !
On parole, from rigorous imprisonment after fractured collar bone...
With the monsoon at its most gentle drizzle...Bandstand Carnatic music flowing.. Familiar Social Virus van with Praveen and Hari at work...
Took a deep deep breath...
Oh Cubbon.. I missed you !!
At sharp 7 am..Managed to assemble foldie..Literally single handed..!!
Fortunately with Ajith, Anindita and Gaurav and myself, the teachers were sufficient, anyway, we had another helping hand in form of Sourav. He comes to do Yoga here from Halusuru Gurudwara. . and decided... teaching cycling is not a bad idea ! help to humanity !

(Yep...Won't waste chance !! )
As for students, Supriya (ably supported by Vinit) and Deepti were first..soon joined by Shanavas. Both the girls are what I call,,:lurchers' and till they learn to keep the spine steady, will have to be patient .
Shanavas surprised me by the contrast. The ease with which he balanced himself was striking from the struggle he had in keeping paws on the pedals. It was an annoying discovery... of what can ail a rookie !! It easily rivalled the zika virus story unfolding on current medical canvas !
Vinita was another newbie
Harish and Sudhish both have become independent and should be roadworthy for month end ride...Hopefully we will resume it too this month .
Ruth and Vinita were from previous batch.
Ruth got so comfortable with the yulu bike..She refused to let it go (slight exaggeration) !
Vinita was cool... till a fall shook her up a bit ! any way, she will get it all wrapped up in no time.
Anipriya had Ajith, and her son too, supervising her progress.
Geeta came but vanished quickly !
Manjula and Chaitra (With Ram for moral boost) both seniors, are now doing very well, though I would have loved to spend a bit more time with them (and Harish and Sudeesh) to iron out rough edges. .
Kirti's mom, came to teach shuttle, took photos and lent her into the photo too...!
Had nice chat with Ani and Gaurav after a long time. Before leaving, reluctantly, Mid sunday Cubbon Park at its serene lazy and languid best....

Cubbon park reporting !
We had a Grrrreat outing !!
2 newbies...Abhijith and Suma
A host of volunteers....
Ali, Ajith, Sachin, Shastha, Anindita, Gaurav and Sourav....Giving a dream ratio..Almost 1:1..
Cycles were fewer,( the foldie couldn't be used, because the pedal had got loose.😢 ) But students were exemplary in patience !!👍
Abhijith, strong man, had a good beginning, so did Suma... both will do well and be independent in couple of sessions.
Amongst seniors, Sindhu and Leena were first to arrive, Nrithika, Harish, Anita (Babloo and Neha's mom), Shanavas, Geetha and Adya followed..
Adya was star of the day, from a very self critical 'zero progress' of last session, to.. not only managed balancing but raced to upslope riding and turning too !! Well done ! This is how young age scores !
Sindhu is good, needs quads exercising for upslope, which is true of Nrithika and Geetha too..Leena has managed to balance but direction is an issue..Will get better... Anita, had a tall bike, but being a true fighter turning obstacle into a stepping stone, she used it to learn standing start and stop !! For a mother of two...That calls for applause !! 💐
Blasts from past included Chandrakala and her son Yashwant, and Neha..Now shifted to MG road..
Hope to rope her as volunteer too !
Ashok, a regular commuting cyclist, dropped in to say hello..And I have started thinking of Vijaynagar as a future centre ! 😊
The regular pics this time had new feature. one hand cycle salute by who else ... Gaurav !! Just let my fracture heal...man !!
And at last ...grand finale' !!
The pleasant surprise...cunningly planned, superbly executed. By our ever joyful Anindita,. Sprung on Sachin.. Birthday celebrations 3 days ahead !!

Report of 15 K ride for newbies :
Ganesh took charge, dealt with a bit of chaos regarding starting point..And moved the herd, except mom daughter Jodi of Shakti and Arushi, dropped out as not able to adjust to the bikes and did 12K in Cubbon itself !
Ganesh, Anindita, Sastha, Ankit, Arjun and Ram were volunteers, for the remaining couple of newbies, Chaitra and Rajendra..!!
The slopes made group split into two and Ganesh tells of near collision scenario on two occasions, with luck, they came through the experience. ! Congratulations to both, Chaitra and Rajendra for taking the plunge in live traffic...I am sure it will help to identify weaknesses to work upon and lessen anxiety for future... Thanks to Vijay, for cycles, Ganesh for captainng and crew for support and having fun !!
Teaching session :
Glorious day again !!
Ajith, Sourav, myself to supervise 2 newbies, Kirtana and sister Manisha. Both young lasses and will be OK by next session. Seniors included Hareesh and Shanavas, both had started on own, Dr. Sowmya now trying hand signalling, Jyoti, found her balancing and moved on..her joy was palpable !! Suma still needed help, Veena was trying things on her own ! Deepti, came for a short period, even though her little son is not keeping well.
Little chaotic due to a photography teaching session with about 50 students also apart from the plenty of tiny tots on little bikes, shuttle cock players, and usual cubboners giving our students near life experience in very early part of learning !!
Babloo, Neha turned up with Rajesh, and couple of seniors too, promising to come again...
15 K riders returned and Sastha said good bye, will be flying to Sunny California soon. Karachi biscuits was his treat to all of us and we will miss his quiet and reassuring presence with his voluntary help for newbies to get into cycling.
Wishing him a great future in career and life...

This weekend session at Cubbon's started with a disruption !
IAS officers decided to get into health stream and had a training session in primary area ! And apropos to their stature, primary and secondary guards and video camera were stationed all around !
So, with the gates closed for us regular citizens, we fell back initially to secondary area but later shifted to the Venkatappa Art Gallery and outer parking area..
(Retrospectively, poor decision, because road was narrower and run was shorter too..😢)
Four trainers, Arjun Ajith Sourav and myself..
No new student...Must have thought we were not playing, with all that guarded gymnastics on display where normally we cyclists jostle with shoppers and shuttlers !
Amongst seniors,
Shanavas Abhijith and Hareesh were early birds, followed by Deepthi, Dr. Sowmya, Sindhu and Leena, Ruth got on with the mental and physical roller coaster of cycle learning.. Manjula came, Chaitra with Ram fleeted in and then, out..! what with the area cordoned off !
Deepthi tried her level best but balancing eluded her for the time being.
Leena showed substantial improvement, Ruth had a fall and got a souvenir- a knee cap abrasion..But held her composure, as seen in the defiant V sign !! Bravo !
Varalakshmi obliged with click and in turn, joined for Ajith's selfie !
Arjun's Kerala e-cycle was a cheater's delight for upslope ! May be some girls should seriously think about this contraption.. altough purists will abhorr and scoff at such thought !
Almond topped cookies from Deepthi were yum and yummier was her cool resolve of sending a video in a month's time with her riding cycle back in USA.. !!

Great sunday morning with fine drizzle..Some wind..But as good one can wish it to be... to learn cycling ! Cubbon at its serene best with soulful Carnatic music from bandstand..
3 teachers.. Sachin was a surprise welcome in place of Arjun who I learn now was down with cold.. Ajith has been super consistent..And myself..
5 newbies.. Ayesha, Haro, Ann, Sangeeta, Arvind. Joel tried but was out of reach for the brakes on foldie !
Ayesha mastered in no time with dad Junaid helping..Haro was the star ! From lurcher to balancer.. in one session.. was a treat to enjoy !! Ann did it too and was cynosure of the proud parents. Sangeeta had just to dust off the memory imprint for balance but turns etc will need to be sorted. Arvind came at the fag end and just glimpsed the joys !
Seniors included Shanavas, Abhijith, Dr. Sowmya, Suma... Surprise Seniors were Nandini and Udita..Nice of them to drop in to revise their signalling and half pedalling skills. We welcome more seniors to take their cue and drop in now and then and polish up riding safety.

All in all..Good workout for all of us !

If your mind can temporarily block the Kerala floods ( you are doing your bit.. I am sure ! Thanks💐 ), it was another great cycling day !
Ganesh, Arjun Sourav and myself were volunteers for the session..
Ayesha was already on the job and had fallen, shrugging off a nasty knock on the knee with a hole in stretch pant and a wound, with her brilliant smile, and moving off. She had couple more.. before waving white flag ! What a fighter gal !
I feel very bad when a student falls... and gets hurt ...Although I am falling myself at this age too, and as Junaid put it, it may take off fear of falling from her and make her more at ease to learn, I consider it as a bad advertisement for cycling and something which as good teachers, will consider our failure to properly supervise the learning process.
Somehow, students, in a hurry to 'get on' seem to give lot of importance to balance and riding, but little to safe braking and stopping and is the most neglected but most essential skill BEFORE you learn to balance
I am open to suggestions.
Three newbies, Prarthana and Lithika and little Joel. Both young ladies did well, Prarthana exceptionally so. Blessed with natural learning and Ganesh's teaching acumen, she was on her own in no time. Joel is learning for dad Anil's sake, and that is the problem. He is mortified...May have to rethink.
Sangeeta, Sindhu, Leena, Hareesh, Haro, Ayesha and Ann were seniors, at various levels, on their own most of the time. Sangeeta got partial hang of standing start She is quite good on appropriate height cycle. Leena progressed well, needs upslope power to get better.

Good to be back to Dear old Cubbon...
In its glory on a rain washed morning, with bandstand performance and music, walkers and dog walkers, runners and joggers, shuttlers and shoppers Roller bladers and skaters....
and most important..Cyclists !!
Param was the only new student and despite lurching and loose pedal grip, managed to balance downhill slope like a pro. Braking was superb !
Seniors included right side riding Hareesh , Chaitra, Dr. Sowmya, Paulomi, recent comers Abhishek, chandrakala and Harsha. Dr. Sowmya's upslope starts are just great. She is moving on to hanf signalling.
Paulomi needs to remember basics and practice for couple of classes more. Abhishek and Chitrakala for third session are safe and confident.
Harsha in her second session itself, is getting better at balancing, handle control is the issue to be sorted.
Babloo turned up to say hallo... mashing on his bike .. with dad Rajesh.
I am obliged to Ram for supervising Chandrakala and Chaitra too.
Ram's selfie, giving Balcony seat like view of today:s super gang, brought curtains down on a great sunday morning !💐

Cubbon Park reporting !
Another lovely morning,however, Yesterday's morning chill was conspicuous by its absence There were fewer Cubbon Parkers than usual.
Even students were fewer, registered but did not turn up..
As against volunteers who were in full strength !! Ajith, Ganesh, Sachin. I myself came with both, foldie and Ladybird coaxed in car.
Dr Sowmya was already on rental bike as I entered the parking area, Brakes not happy with, she immediately swapped and swooped on the foldie !
Tarunabh turned up and Ganesh got him going on the ladybird.
Ajith myself and Sachin almost joined a yoga group doing stretching exercises, when Swaroop was spotted doing balancing and I got myself a student !
Sachin took over after my basic round and Ajith watched Dr. Sowmya. Param came in, now independent, though a bit wobbly due to nascent and hence imprecise handle bar control.
Surprise visit by Opendro, who ran, while daughter Sangavi cycled, all the way from Jayanagar, was clearly the highlight to inspire us all. Perfect father ! Got bananas for all and roasted सींग-चना (peanuts and gram lentils) later.
Rajesh came with Babloo, getting chubby and full of excuses ! Wanted to learn double seat riding with condition that pillion should be light weight (understandable) and not a girl ( go figure ) !!Sulked as couldn't race upslope, while Srinivas took group photo to wind up a sedate session..

Minutes:
Yet another bright sunny Sunday morning. Dr Manda was the first to turn up after a long break. Had a bit of difficulty in starting. Not able to proceed much as she was not out of fear of falling down. Assured to come in the coming weeks as well and master the skill in lesser time. There were 2 newbies this week.. Audrey Ross and Soundar. Audrey Ross was an absolute fresher while Sounder had some failed attempts in the past in learning. But both were very fast in getting the balance. Though I was able to spend only around 30 minutes with each of them, both were showing very good progress. Swaroop has started on his own but was lurching too much. He needs more practise. Dr.Sowmya has started practising a for some time for standing and riding. She needs more practise on this. Further, she was doing the double role for some time helping others in getting the balance. Thanks a lot, Dr. Maa'm. Chandrakala was another student for today’s session. She was riding on her own. Needs to work on the up-slope rides. She is able to do small turns and has to start drawing circles with the cycle next. The student - volunteer ratio was 6:1. So I was not able to spend more time for each student and forced to take on queue basis. Hope you all will have more better learning experience in the coming weekends(Sundays). Till then wish you all happy peddling, safe riding.

Three volunteers..
Ajith, Arjun and Ali
Three Newbies..
Shauryanaditya (Shaurya), Astrid (with hubby Dillon ) and Shabana.
Seniors included Dr. Sowmya, Audrey.
All three newbies were amazing and got past the balancing act in no time...
Shabana being a scooter rider was not a surprise in that she was comfortable from word go.Taking turns being the stumbling step for her.
Shaurya was a real sport, took few knocks but being quick learner, was game for many advance manoeuvres... including standing start !
Astrid was a natural too.. soon riding on her own, and hence trainers became jobless !😊
Audrey is doing great now doing circles.
Dr.Sowmya overcame height apprehensions and started riding ladybird , including standing during downslope..Next is upslope mashing..I am sure she will smash that too soon !!
Neha Babloo and Dad Rajesh came in to say hello, so did Fakhira and Shabbir...Ali's family friends. Fatima was ready to play hostess with some yummy laddoos.. welcomed by all !
equally yummy news was Dillon's offer to chip in as a volunteer !!

Hi friends !
We had two sessions, concurrently, after a long time !
JP Nagar :
Ganesh had Keerthana to teach and from his triumphant remark in the photo he has posted, showing the young lady comfortable on her mount, he did not have to shed much sweat !
Cubbon Park:
As anticipated, the traffic restrictions for the marathon posed a challenge for some (Ali as well as Astrid + Dillan ki jodi) while others (read Fatima and Arjun) had no problems !
Also as expected, rental cycle van too was not allowed and confusion reined. One of new students (Soni) got discouraged by uncertainty and went off.
Some hung on...And were rewarded, as they got ample cycling time, with our ever trustworthy foldie and ladybird, Arjun's ebike and Babloo also very generously allowed us to use his cycle too 🙏
Also, good quiet area without the meddlesome cars and shuttle players !
No new students.
Arjun, Dillan and myself to keep an eye on senior team of the day including :
Komal, Audrey, Shaurya, Param, Sudhish and lastly Astrid.
They all are good and only fine control and signalling needs to be mastered.
They all can join in next weekend 15 Km ride, I think. I will post details about that soon. This is apart from the regular Cubbon park session.
Babloo with Rajesh and Chandralekha with her son Yashwanth dropped in to say hello.
We had the customary photos and Fatima arranged for hopcoms mango/grape juice drinks to end a sedate but useful session !

15 K training road ride:
Aim : To get new students to become comfortable riding on the regular Bengaluru roads.
How much ?
It is free.
When :
last weekend of the month we conduct Free 15 Km road ride. Cubbon Park to Mekri Circle and back.
For whom :
for senior students who have cracked bicycle riding in protected spaces but are scared to go on the road with traffic.
for you to join this ride..
1.You must be able to take a good start on upslope without losing direction.
2.You must be able to stop safely by moving towards kerb while remaining seated.
3. If you can give hand signals it will be added safety point.
Our trainers will shield you.
Who else can join :
All previous students who haven't done this ride, are welcome !
We welcome regular kind hearted cyclists as volunteers for this !!
For newbies : We allow as many stops as you feel comfortable.
How about cycles ?
Bring your own, if possible. Vijay, of social virus, has been kind, providing rent free cycles for this -without fees and out of turn - as well, but we need to tell him the numbers by Friday afternoon.

He needs a few more sessions shedding his instincts of grounding his right leg when left goes up to get going... Nevertheless, it was a good Sunday session."

Now Cubbon Park :
Lovely day at Cubbon, ever inspiring carnatac music flowing from Bandstand, but confusing state of affairs in primary cycling area due to cyclathon to support cause of breast cancer.
Rental cycles had to go near central library due to this.
Shaurya thought we were actually functioning at secondary area.. which we weren't !
Audrey and Dr. Sowmya got the ball rolling with foldie and ladybird. Ajith soon joined in to help out.
No newbie again !
We soon moved to the small strip outside Venkattappa art gallery. Shaurya got another cycle. Babloo and dad Rajesh came in and helped with his cycle.
Signalling was the focus of the day for these seniors.
Manda came in. She finally is shedding the baggage of fear slowly !
And.. slow and steady win, isn't it ?
Shabana managed to trace us but was sent on a cycle hunt, as we needed a bike.
She went there but drew a blank. Got her back in the action soon, but in the bargain, lost more time ! However, she did get 'real life' cycling experience, that too minus brakes !
Got regular photos and some more with boys of Prabhakar Rao's Go Green initiative. He was so gracious to gift saddle pouch to me and Ajith as appreciation token.
That brought curtains down !

JP Nagar : A nice morning with usual bustle in mini forest market, we started at 7:15 with only student Shiva. He started a little rusty but quickly recovered to the point where we left last week. All 1.5 hrs (excluding a 5 mnt break I forced in between and a 10 mnt break we were forced to take fixing the chain that popped out) he was riding up and down the slope practicing his balance. Appreciate his persistence leading to be on his own in straight lines. Some more tweaks and he should get going with turns...

Vimalkumar turned up !
Such a joy to see him after months..hopefully, it will be more often in future !
That made our volunteer team super strong, with Arjun, Dillan, myself and Vimal.
We were evenly matched by 4 new students !
Syed finally managed to come for the class after threatening a few times earlier..and cracked balance under Dillan's watchful eyes in no time.
Sayyeda was the toast of the day, Arjun was the guide, and she managed too with cool confidence.
Mangala (in saree) and Jyoti were other two, both have got partial sense of balance, Jyoti was steadier of the two, but was running out of steam upslope ! It is such a delight to see enthusiasm and joy in these young mothers !👍💐
Seniors included Astrid, Audrey, Shabana (with a yulu bike ) and Swaroop... Vimal looked after the seniors with his usual flair, including taking them through his unique reverse pedalling balance test !!
Yulu bike was in good condition and encourage more students to download one or more of these apps to have greater access.
So folks...Great time all in all
