Praveen,

Lovely tour and log. Thanks for sharing! I would suggest getting a proper seatpost clamp replacement and keeping the jugaad solution as a backup :)

Cheers,
Arvind

Hi Arvind,
thanks. Actually I called your numbers from Mysore immediately. But there was no answer. I was thinking may be I could quickly go to Bangalore and get a clamp from you or from Wheelsports and return to Mysore.

And after the tour I contacted your numbers again and this time Iggy said you are in the US. He asked me to come to the store which is quite near to where I live but there was no time and I had to leave.

Yes, I will remove the jugaad fix :-)

Thanks DB. I got the bike from Chain reaction cycles UK some 5 years ago and brought it to India from Munich. I have kept the bike in India to use it there.

Hey Praveen... nice. I recall running into someone based in Germany/Europre, at the BOTS store few years back. They had a Kona HonkyTonk. Maybe that was you. :)

If you keep the bike here & use it on your annuals trips to India, I could take care of it while you are away. ;)

What size is it? 58cms Surly LHT is what I use "normally". I am looking to put together a steel frame radonneuring bike. The Kona HonkyTonk seems like one nice option. Would you like to discuss futher? :)

Hi DB,
yeah. I remember and if I'm not mistaken, you even took my bike for a test ride and said saddle height was bit low for you:). So we already have an answer:)

Actually I'm not thinking of selling it. I have found it very useful and handy to have it and I ride it very much around JP Nagar, Jayanagar when I visit. And of course my tours...staying in Bengaluru for more than a week at a stretch drives me crazy in many ways:).

I think it might be bit small for you if you ride a 58cms LHT.  Around this time of the year, there will be great deals so, may be, you could get a frame online and set it up in India for your new build or talk to Arvind and get a Straggler or Pacer or something similar?

Hey Praveen... Ya, I think I might have taken your bike for a test ride. I was hoping I could interest you in an arrangement where you could still use the bike whenever you visit India. :) Let me see what else I can think of... expect some email in your inbox with some other crazy scheme. :)

Read your blog post about your latest tour. Very awesome. The episode about the clamp was interesting. Folks at various local shops do have very high level of skills. Just a perception we unfortunately have, that that may not be so. (Please post the Irwin Road (Mysore) shop name in your post. I think it will very useful for the rest of us.)

The Surly Pacer is an option... just trying to see if I can keep the budget in check. :)

The shop is not on Irwin road but just behind on a small alley near the Mosque. It is called "Mysore Engineering Works" and the owner's name is Siraj.

On a side note, coincidentally his shop is just behind Baiju's bikeshop (I had once posted an old cyclists' photo, also in a blog) but I found out Baiju has, sadly, passed away few years ago and his shop is closed. He had some Vintage(now) American/foreign bikes, don't know what happened to them, we used to take a "round" when we were small kids (he was my father's friend).

And Siraj referred me to "Mysore Nuts & Bolts" on Ashoka Road where I got high quality Allen screw. They did not have high quality Allen nut&bolt in the size I was looking for so they referred me to "Sagar Nuts & Bolts" in Shivarampet where I got high quality Allen nut & bolt.

By the way my bike is 53cm. Yes, Private communication will be better.
