SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

In answer to your question,  Allston Brighton CDC has not solicited or received any funds from potential medical marijuana dispensaries.  We own over 300 units of family housing close to both sites being proposed on Harvard Avenue in Allston.  As such we have been concerned about potential unintended consequences of these locations and how they might negatively affect the quality of life of our tenants. After several conversations with our tenant leadership, they made it clear that they would prefer  not to have any dispensaries near their homes.  They understand that this activity is legal, however, and one may be approved.  Out of the two being proposed – one across from Glenville (a street we own many units on), and the site next to BFresh, across Commonwealth Avenue, they would prefer the site near BFresh.    It is further away and if there are unintended negative consequences from this business they feel they will be affected less at that location.    All of  this was reported at the last Brighton Allston Improvement Association meeting and was based entirely on what was best for CDC tenants, which is our primary responsibility.

Carol:

If your tenant leadership is against locating these operations in Allston why would you be finessing their position.  No means no in the neighborhood.  Your explanation is too cute by about half.

Why won't you back their " no dispensaries near their homes" position that you reference?

Your tenants need unequivocal support  from CDC. Please stick up for their interests.  Let the financial backers of the clinic find another neighborhood.  This part of Allston is defenseless.   We need political leadership with vision for neighbors and neighborhoods.

Maybe the Charles River Health Center or St. Elizabeth or Brighton Marine  would be more appropriate  and more acceptable.  Even including the marijuana project in the Monastery project is a possibility.

Paul
