Fall 2016 Mentoring Program

The Harvard Ed Portal builds on Harvard’s commitment to education beyond the classroom through its cornerstone program of academic mentoring by Harvard undergraduates for children and youth in the subject areas of math, science, writing, and the arts. The program is free and available to children and youth, grades 1-12, who are residents of Allston-Brighton or who attend the Gardner Pilot Academy in North Allston. Approximately 30 Harvard College undergraduate students serve as Ed Portal Mentors each semester. Participants must sign-up for free Ed Portal membership in order to participate. Different mentoring options are available depending on a mentee's grade-level.

Where: Mentoring will take place at the Harvard Ed Portal, 224 Western Ave. in Allston.

When: The fall program will run from Monday, September 26 through Thursday, December 1.

Applications: The application period for this semester is now open.

Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted from Thursday, August 18 through Thursday, September 8.

    Program Schedule and Details

Mentoring sessions are scheduled to take place once a week during the semester and are held on the same day and time each week. Sessions are 50-minutes in length. Sessions are offered Monday through Thursday at 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m., or 6 p.m.

Mentoring options include one-on-one mentoring sessions for students who are in grades 3-8. New this fall: Youth may also apply to participate in a variety of clubs that meet on specific days to focus on specific subjects including computer coding, cooking, and biotechnology in a group setting.
