I just found out that planning is underway that will lead to tearing down the Arsenal Mall, and building a new large/dense multi-use complex.
The mall has been a fixture for such a long time — not fancy by any stretch of imagination, but familiar, close, and comfortable (not everything needs to be fancy) — that I admit to having mixed feelings about it. Also, the project is close enough to us that traffic impacts will likely be felt in North Brighton/Allston — not that we can do anything about it.

Eva and all-

Two things to note-  It seems they will keep the parts of the Arsenal Mall that are the old Arsenal buildings, and tear down the connecting newer construction-  and the plans seem to imply that Home Depot will still be there at least, since that property and its large parking lot are not owned by the developer (at least as of now):

The other interesting thing to note-  if you look at the plans closely at this link:

is that the tallest building being added to the complex is a 12-story or so residential tower to be built right behind the existing mall (Building “G” in the plans), pretty much right above the riverbank directly facing Brighton-  on the attached plan, check out pages  22, 38, and 39 particularly-  it will be VERY visible from Brighton, particularly streets such as Riverview, Newton, Bigelow, Parsons, Goodenough, North Beacon, etc…….
