Good afternoon all,

We are looking at ways to clean up the cabling in one of our conference rooms. We have looked at Steelcase Thread and unfortunately we cannot run any additional cables through. We are curious what products/methods you have used for under carpet wire ways and what were the outcomes.

Thank you in advance for any information you can share.

Best regards,

We have used a product from wiremold, well, our electricians have.  It is fairly flat and has a wide section for low voltage.  It can be left as a flat black plate or a carpet insert can be added.

Hi Elizabeth—

We have used Connectrac in a room and it worked well. https://connectrac.com/

We use to use AVTrac from Extron but I see that it is retired now.

Features. Low profile cable raceway system — Provides a safe, yet discreet means of running power, data, and AV cables across open floor surfaces and high traffic ...
Sorry I cant be of more help.

Extron's AV trac was actually made by a company called Connectrac - which is still in business.

Hi Elizabeth,

Apologies in advance thinking outside the carpet…

I’m not sure what the rental cost for the proper tool might be, but you might consider coring (if the floor is concrete), buying a proper poke through, and delivering the signal without disrupting the carpet, etc (except for the one hole).

Home Depot rents the corers.

That looks like a tool that could get me into a lot of trouble!

I agree Keith, must be a Canadian thing. :-)
One note of caution regarding coring.
Make sure a scan is done of the spot in the concrete to make sure there is not a water or power line present.

No lie, we had a contractor use up one of his nine lives when he went through a concealed conduit with a 440V circuit in it with a core drill.  Trust not as-builts...

Yep, I once watched an contractor miss a hydraulic line by about 1/4 inch. The line was in plain view on the ceiling in the room below, but he didn’t like taken measures and considered counting his steps to be adequate measurement.

Hi Elizabeth,

I concur w/ Greg coring w/ a poke through's ideal, plus 10-15% scalability in raceway sizing. If it's not high traffic and you prefer not renovating infrastructure, I use SAFCORD as an inexpensive "over/under" fix here  Works well in ad-hoc, multi-purpose spaces and there's a few colors to try blending in w/ your interiors.

My GC's like FSR's products are always to code w/fire-rating, etc. and moisture resistant to electricians! FSR can customize anything to your connectivity needs and turn around product very quickly being manufactured out of Newark, NJ.

Wld love to hear how it works out!

Poke Through will work, but Coring is not DIY.   Have an Electrician do it.

Thank you all very much for the suggestions, we will be looking into the different products. However, I think we are going to stay away from any major renovations.

Best regards,

Elizabeth, Connectrac will be releasing a new product later this year version 2.7 Under-Carpet.
Will carry power and up to 6 or 8 Cat 6 cables. I saw it at a show a couple weeks ago @Storr Office Products, RTP
