Hi Craig,

So is there a sense yet as to how long it is going to take to do the new 3D meshes for the rest of the major areas? What is teh criteria for determining what will get done in what order. Will it be all major cities modeled with the new mesh technology by year 2016 and then smaller cities and towns by 2018? Or is it that GE feels that there will be some towns that will never see any 3D meshing whatsoever?

Hi wingnut, as is Google's policy, we do not pre-announce data pushes, nor our strategy going forward. If you'd like an idea of what goes into updating imagery for Google Earth and Maps, here is a good article: About Google Earth Imagery

Here is a list of recently published 3D Imagery cities in Spain:

Jaén
Badajoz
Merida
Castellon de la plana
Toledo
Zamorra

I'm kinda disappointed as to why almost a year has gone by, and I see no mesh updates in the Midwestern cities I deal with. I could have been building models for them all this time..  While it is nice to see the fine work of my fellow model creators, existing in stalled time,  I thought the whole reason we were all retired from publishing content, was that there was to be a breakthrough in mesh data. What's up?!?

Hi R.Rolfe,

I can understand your disappointment if we haven't been able to update cities that you care most about, but we have been busy. The retirement of user generated 3D program had many reasons, which have already been covered, so there wasn't really a "whole reason" from a breakthrough perspective, but many reasons around how we could focus the team's efforts on the new system. The people that are working on the new system, were the same people that were working on the old system, and we couldn't do both, so we'd decided to move completely to the new system of 3D Imagery. I can understand if you haven't seen the cities you wanted in 3D Imagery yet, but here's a small portion of the list of the recent 3D Imagery cities published:

Really fast, but the geometry details are crap!

why not keep the levels of detail in Barcelona or Madrid?
