Ok. I noticed one thing that is kinda fishy. The email address that it was sent from is google-3d...@google.com. I have never gotten any emails from them before. The usual email name is a no-reply email address or  Google 3D Warehouse . But for all I know, it could be real. -Gravitar.

I'm so curious about this gift. I also have received gifts before from the Google 3D Geo Modeling Team, and I can say that they have never been disappointed, and they have always supported us, so I am very happy that this time they reach everyone.

But beyond the gifts, I mean that although lately I have not had much time, 3D geo modeling is something I will not leave. It's fun and it's good to meet many interesting people.

Waaa... I didn't get one !

Although, if it were spam, one would have to be worried that our accounts had been hacked.

Unfortunately for me, even IF Google Did Want to get hold of me, I'm still sporting the wrong email address. Thus Google has a hard time contacting me at the best of times.
While I am listed as a "Featured Google Earth Modeler", I have yet to have opportunity to actually be Featured in the Google Blog for the same reason.
In fact, it was luck alone (I think) that enabled one of the Guides to contact me last year to offer a chance to go to a Mapper's/Modeler's Conference. She said that she tried several times to contact me using the Listed Email Address.

Anyway, I did manage to receive a great T Shirt which I were proudly.
But if Google has any more Give-Aways, I'm happy to give my address !!

I got too stressed out this winter, in part from so much modeling ... and that appears to have reflected on the way I am perceived overall.
So I guess it's back to the drawing board ... I'll have to start pounding them out a bit faster again.

Unfortunately, we were required to Reply to a the Gift Notification Email to confirm are interest in receiving a gift. After we replied, we also received a Confirmation of Reply Received Email.
Otherwise, "it is my understanding" that you will not receive anything.

That said, who knows ... since the Google Guides do frequent these Forums, they might have a change of heart for those that missed the opportunity to reply (due to fears of Spam) but still would like to accept their offer and have said so hear. But don't hold your breath.
Of course, I have NO IDEA because I do not represent Google.

I got my gift today. If we'd have got the boxes the week after supplying our addresses, then it would have been a nice gesture. But nearly 3 months have passed since we got the email and, for me, I couldn't help but feel increased anticipation as time passed by.

Seeing your message, and then opening the box an hour ago and seeing that you weren't kidding, I can't help but feel that they shouldn't have bothered. They'll have spent far more in postage than the actual gifts are worth. That wouldn't be a problem if the items were something unique, say a specially made Google Earth trinket that was unique to us, but the gifts we got were along the lines of items that salesmen give to clients, things like pens and keyrings - totally generic items.

It did occur to me that they've spent thousands sending us something of little value, but they could have easily given us SU 8 Pro licenses (non-renewing if/when SU 9 is released) at almost no cost to them and we would have been blown away. Instead they spent thousands to give us coffee mugs and a notepad.

I don't know about you, but there are times when I think I'm wasting my time modelling for GE. Recently I was pretty angry over a couple of models that were pulled from GE after being up for a couple of years. The terrain was changed on one of them so it got pulled for floating, the other was pulled for some nonsense texture reasons. The texture model was accepted on appeal, but the floating one wasn't. The floating model had been viewed around 5,000 times and IMO even when floating looks better than no model, so I'm just not going to spend the time to fix the model when it's their changing terrain that creates the problem.

With the changing criteria for models, the sale of SU to Trimble and the replacement of our models with auto-generated ones, I was thinking hard about whether I should continue modelling for GE. The gifts that we've waited nearly three months for have pushed me even further into thinking GE modelling should be something I used to do.

Hi all.

This thread has been strange from the beginning with people going
crazy about getting or not getting a gift, and it becomes more awkward
every day in my opinion.

But wait, there seem to be some people who got the gifts and don't
find them valuable and an almost equal number of people seemingly
urgently in need for new coffee cups and stuff with the Google logo on
it. Maybe those that got the gift and don't need it can send it to
those who will not get any gift, so we have many more happy people?
You can also put a nice picture postcard of your town into the package
and get a new international friend this way. :-)

CraigD I'm using a back door to get to Google. well here it is this was a resent post whose response was inadequate for my purpose. "
In my neighborhood in the south Bronx where I am modeling I usually go out to take pictures. People give me stares, It would be nice to wear a google earth geo modeler tee shirt or even a jacket to avoid conflicts. If you take the time and visit the South Bronx through Google earth you'll notice my contribution. Not that anyone or anywhere else is more important, But if you're my age the history of the south Bronx is well documented in it's social implications.

The same thing happens to me here in Mexico, I ended up buying a T-shirt and 2 caps at the Google Store, the more identified you are the less they will be disturbed about who you are and what are you doing anyway If Google can provide some useful wearing stuff it would be great.

Google does not sell data on users, nor is spam our policy. Matter of fact, we go to great efforts to ensure that there is no spam in our forums.

I welcome you to bring interesting discussions about 3D modeling, and ask for help. If your goal is to stir up trouble, there are many other places on the web that will tolerate that type of behavior. This is not one of them.

I was not referring to spam in the traditional sense. Google absolutely makes its money off of selling advertising (spam). They put ads all over everything. That is how your search engine makes money is by "spamming" ads (sponsored listings) on the screen. You do the same thing with Gmail. I get spam ads at the top of my screen when i open gmail. It even reads the content of my email and presents ads that correspond with the email.
This is how Google makes it money, and yes selling user trends and information is a huge part of google's business. This is fact. It is public information.
