EPU-4 Engine?

I have an Asus quad core running Windows 7 and it seems to have slowed down
since I got it. So I was looking around and found this little tray utility
called an EPU-4 Engine with some settings that they dont really explain in
there, but which seem to be designed around some pseudo-ecology global
warming political correctness. It has like this pentagonal shaped dial that
says Tranquility. Performance, Reliability, Convenience and Energy Saved.

But it wont let me set it for what I'd like, for example Blazing Speed.

It has Auto, High Perfomance and Max Power Saving settings, and moves this
weird shaped object around inside that dial area, not really focusing on any
one point inside it.

Who designed this thing, some California eco-kooks?

They worry about saving a watt or two in my quad core?

Anyway, is there any way to just get rid of this thing and set it for "Fast
as Blazes"?

Check the AMD or Intel site to see if there is a driver update for the CPU
and if so, get it and install it.

Next, go to the ASUSTek site

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

and flash the bios and then get the latest EPU4 version (1.00.04 maybe?).
(Uninstall the old EPU4 and then install the new)

Run thru the bios settings to check if all are ok and clear out in
overclocking then run it for a while to see if it performs ok. If so, go
back into the bios and tweak/overclock all you want.

Thanks Mike.

It's hard to tell about some of what I see there.

But I would like to get rid of the silly EPU-4 engine thing, if I could just
set something to run the quad core in screamin mode all the time, and damn
the 1 watt extra it uses.

Thanks, will check all this out. I can overclock this? Without messing with
wiring or anything?

This thing is a Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.5GHz, with 8GB RAM. The only
thing it says is slowing it down in the Win Experience thingie ( 3.6 ), is
the onboard video, but I dont do games anyway.

Ack. My bios, when I boot, says
Asus EZ Flash 2
CG5270 ACPI Bios 0206

Not sure how that relates to anything at that site.

I found the update utility under Asus in my Programs and ran it repeatedly
but it never does anything. It goes to the update server and keeps tweaking
it every once in awhile but never completes what it's trying to do.

Asus has a built in overclock function in the bios on lots of their MoBos.
Do you have the MoBo owners manual? Info is on the Asus site if not.

One thing I noticed was that the onboard graphics is slowing me down, even in
the Win 7 Aero "Experience" index.

Proc 7.2
RAM 7.2
Graphics - Windows Aero 4.4
Gaming 3.6
HD 5.9

Would it speed things up much to get a decent medium end ( more in the $50-
$100 range ), not a big deal gaming graphics card?

I'm wondering if thus EPU-4 engine is of any advantage anyway, or would the
PC run faster if I just removed it?

Does it really affect performance? If so I guess it depends upon the amont
of electricity savings you get. Does it cut down the fan noise when idle?

The ASUS mobo with AMD quad cpu here has their old Cool and Quite (CnQ) and
Speed Step which apparently the EPU-4 replaces. Supposed to save elecricity
which I haven't measured but can tell a difference in fan noise.

I read that both the mobo and video card must be from ASUS for it to work
for the VGA
