Japanese characters in SSID

Using qifi.org I am generating the QR of a WiFi network having an SSID with only Japanese characters. Scanning the QR with an iPhone shows the SSID was not encoded properly; it results in some garbled roman characters.

OK, then neither the encoder nor decoder was from this project, so don't think it's relevant here.
