The UJ Department of Philosophy would like to express our deepest sympathies to the Van Niekerk family following the tragic death of their son, Bouwer van Niekerk. Prof. Anton van Niekerk has changed many of our lives with his deep commitment to ethical thought, having on more than one occasion prompted us to sit, in stillness, with complexity.

 
We grieve this senseless loss in solidarity. Like the Latin word “condolere” intimates, we suffer this pain together with you.
