Hello,

Is there a way to know the character count (not the word count)? Many call for papers set their limits in character count...
I'm currently using microsoft word (copy and paste) in order to have the exact character count...

Thanks for your suggestions

I am looking for exactly the same thing. A way to count all characters in my whole project and in the chapters. I only found the letter count for the scenes but this would be a nuisance to calculate for the whole project.
Can you tell me where you found the character count, please?

Greetings,
Ina

Maybe I've missed something, but the quickest way appears to be via the docx export. Word processing programs usually display the number of characters, LibreOffice for example in the status bar.

Cheers,
Peter

I thought they were trying to count how many characters (antagonist, protagonist, etc.) were in their novel, not how many characters (a, b, c...).

The number of characters (a, b, c..), unlike words, seems pretty useless to me, but I may well be wrong. :)

After going back and re-reading the OP, I see that I was wrong. :)

In my defense, the original post was 2 years old. :)

I understood it to mean the total number of characters including spaces. This figure gives a more accurate indication of the expected printing costs than the word count. Here in Germany, this is traditionally the decisive value when offering a manuscript to a publisher. The number of characters is also usually limited for short stories in magazines.
Typewritten pages were set up in such a way that an average of around 1500 characters per page was achieved. This still exists today as a “standard manuscript page” template.

The office word processors can display this count, and I think it would be a useful feature for yWriter as well.
