Add Character Dialog

Suddenly (I think) the Add Character Dialog is gigantic. Like, almost all of my extra-wide monitor gigantic. Resizing doesn't help. 

I'm still on the alpha 7.1.6.8 so I assume this is some Win11 weirdness. But I have to confess I don't recall using/checking this dialog during our previous font discussions. 

Same behavior from View/Edit on the Characters dialog.

Let me know if there is something I can send you.

If it's not maximised you should be able to grab one corner or another and drag it smaller.

Failing all else, you can exit yWriter and edit the yWriter7.ini file in C:\Users\(name)\AppData\Roaming\Spacejock Software\yWriter7\

Search for lines containing WindowHeight or WindowWidth and delete them

e.g. EditCharWindowHeight,761

(Back up the ini file first in case you break anything)

You can also email me the ini file off-list, and I can check what values it's saved out. Normally anything bigger than the screen is ignored or resized automatically, but if (for example) you've changed monitors or resolution or DPI scaling it might have confused it.

There is a limit to how much I can resize it, and the 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons are way oversized and don't resize. Even when resized, I can't scroll to get to the data entry fields. 

Here's what the settings were. I know I haven't changed them so can't say how they got these values:

EditCharWindowHeight,1019

EditCharWindowLeft,587
EditCharWindowMaxed,0
EditCharWindowScreen,0
EditCharWindowTop,79

I removed the height and width entries, and now the dialog is workable but still pretty large.

Did you change the UI font size in yWriter?

What screen resolution are you using?

Screen Resolution is 2560x1080.

Monitor is a 34" LG Ultrawide. 

We had discussions about font sizes back in June, but I haven't changed anything since June 5.

Good morning, Simon. The add character dialog got huge again.

I checked the .ini file and found this:

I removed
EditCharWindowHeight,785
EditCharWindowLeft,-77
EditCharWindowTop,177
EditCharWindowWidth,2232

And then it appeared OK. But if I opened it a second time, it was big again, and the ini showed this:

EditCharWindowMaxed,0
EditCharWindowScreen,0

EditCharWindowWidth,1210

I had to resize it to get to the OK button. Here's the .ini file after that.

I have a feeling this is all because of my 34" monitor since I don't see anyone chipping in a 'me too!' on this thread.

I have a 34" monitor too, but it's running at 2560 x 1440 so even your larger sizes from that ini file would still fit.  Do you have scaling set to 100%, or higher?

Do you just have one screen? I'm running 3 but the program should adapt each window to the resolution and scale of the monitor it's displayed on.

Scaling is at 100%. Maybe I should try 2660 x 1440?

it should adapt automatically, but it sounds like it's saving one size then displaying a different one later, and repeating that so the window keeps growing.
