Ctrl+Z will not work if a line has been erased with an "enter" input by accident

Hello! Wonderful software!

I've run across a repeatable issue. Text can be deleted and not recoverable using the undo functionality.

Here is the scenario:
Say I have several paragraphs of text done.
1) (Accidentally) hit shift+up arrow, or shift+pageup/pagedown
- (this will highlight sections of text, either a sentence or a paragraph).

2) Hit "enter" while the text is highlighted.  (this will overwrite the lines)
- Whatever is highlighted not only disappears, but is now unrecoverable using Undo (Ctrl+Z). Further Undo actions from the first will then ruin any other formatting in "random" locations. (My guess is it's assuming insert location by character measure, making every insert after the first off-set.)

3.) This brings a major problem: The deleted text will now no longer be anywhere except within auto-backups; Which, you'll be absolutely glad to hear, works marvelously but can be time consuming to sort through and copy/paste back into the scene (At present I just dig into the folders and pull out the lines manually. I should probably look into finding out if you've got some sort of interface for this somewhere).

My specific problem:
65% keyboards usually share the commonality of having a shorter-sized shift key on the same row as the "up arrow", and "PageDown". The "enter" key is directly above both of these, and often have the "PageUp" key immediately next to it.

This means all of these keys are only one pinky slip away from happening. But the main issue? I'm more concerned with what causes the malfunction of the undo process. Once the line is erased with an enter, it's impossible to have it undo properly (and it will ruin formatting for future attempts).

Any insight?

Thanks, and sorry for bugging! (Ha!)

Hi Leonard,
I can't answer your main question (although yWriter's Undo and Redo have always had issues so I personally don't use them) but you can access Autobackups inside yWriter in case you are not aware? Under Tools>BAckups>View Autobackups. They are sorted by date, which you click on, then all the autobackups made on that date will appear by scene name and timestamp. You can set the Autobackup interval via the Tools>Backups>Set Scene Editor Autobackup Options'.

Thank you very much!

It's obvious once you pointed it out to me.
Marvelous!

I have many keys captured as the ones which can delete a chunk of text, but it looks like Enter isn't one of them (the programming language probably treats return and enter as two different keycodes, as well)

I've made a note to check this when I get a chance.

Typing any character will delete highlighted text and leave it unrecoverable with Ctrl-Z.  I've run into this a couple of times where I decided to replace a sentence, only to change my mind when I liked the replacement even less.  I had to go into the backups to copy and paste it back into my scene.  I've learned to type the new sentence before deleting the old one, but it would be nice if Undo actually undid it.

Another option would be not to delete or overwrite the text in question, but to move it to the clipboard using Ctrl-X.

This is fixed in the latest Alpha. I've also fixed pressing Space as well.

I've also added some code to the Alpha test download page which automatically shows the modified file date of the Zip file.

I've tested the Alpha. And it seems to work as expected now!
I already recommend your software to everyone I can, but as soon as able I'm going to get another registered copy to support you. It really is an amazing software.

You. Are. AMAZING! Thank you so very much.

Thanks, glad it's working.

The Alpha releases have freed me up a lot to make quick changes and upload new versions - just like I used to many years ago.
