I've managed to break the original content down into pages, and formatted all the html by hand. There's still a lot of tidying up to do but at least it's online again.

Cheers

Can anyone answer these question for me?

Let me preface this by saying that I'm an older lady who's somewhat tech savvy, but not extremely. I've been using yWriter 6 for several years and I'm familiar enough with it to do the basics. I've been wondering if I should upgrade to yWriter 7? Are there major advantages to the newer version?

And if I do upgrade, how do I get my computer to open my existing projects in version 7 as opposed to version 6? I seem to remember I had that problem when going from 5 to 6 and I don't remember how I handled that.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi - you can install yWriter7 and 6 at the same time.  When running the installer, I'm pretty sure it asks if you want to associate yw5/6/7 files with that version, and if you say NO it will keep loading them in yWriter6

Then you can run yWriter7, start a new empty project and play around with the software to see whether it's usable for you.

Later on, if you want to use yWriter7 by default, you can run the installer again and this time click YES to associate all the project files

Cheers

Hi Sue, I am not a tech-savvyy person either and remember delaying for a long time upgrading to yWriter7 from 6 - however as Simon says there is an option to associate files made in previous versions with yWriter7, and if you choose not to yWriter is so easy to simply reinstall as he said if you want to change the setting later.

I believe I copied my yWriter6 files to a second folder before associating the original projects with yWriter7 just as a precaution - and never needed to re-refer to those copied files again because I had no issues with yWriter7 whereas I had a crash with yWriter6 under Windows 11 (the reason why I decided to upgrade to 7 in the first place)

I'm curious to know which older versions was this tip for (all I'd see in yW7 Sotryboard is truncated text in the scene description box):

make the most the StoryBoard, with its scene title and description
Do the following in the Scene editor window.
Type a short scene title (less than +-15 words) IN CAPITALS.
Then continue with the scene title on the same line in upper and lower case (a mini-thesis!)
Example:
Scene title: JACK VISITS THE SUPERMARKET ON A RAINY DAY.
Mini thesis: He meets his old girlfriend, hears she has been given a geological map which will lead to the treasure, but the treasure is in a war-torn zone. Questions: What will his wife say when she finds out he is seeing her again? What does he do?
Description: Continue with your detailed description in the box at the foot of the page.
Tip! Type out the above and see what this looks like in StoryBoard

I'm not sure, but I don't believe I changed how the storyboard works or displays data for years, apart from adding some more font options (and I think word wrap?)

I didn't write the comprehensive help file so I'm not sure what the original author was trying to explain.

Word wrap was a big step. I remember adding blanks to scene titles so that words wouldn't get broken.
