Renowned Professor of African Literature, died today at the age of 80. A master of multiple genres, he wrote the famous book, Just Before Dawn, a pioneer work of fiction and faction. His Old Genesis beard gave him fame as one of the most prominent black faces on South African television, known as the “Yebo Gogo Man”.

His children grew to become equally famous, one of them a Hollywood movie director.

A tribute follows in due course.

Prof Kole Omotosho’s death  is not only shocking but tragic  in many respects. His demise came at a time that his wise counsel and his prophetic insights would be most needed across the African continent.
This a great loss to global African scholarship.
May the Lord bless his soul and comfort his family and loved ones.

A big loss indeed! When we thought we've had enough in one year, here comes another big one! Ah, this is truly sad! Professor Kole Omotoso - another son of the soil bows out. The harvest truly is plenty, but laborers are leaving the field in record numbers. May we all be comforted!
