This Canto deals with a difficult Technical Term (tt.).

A tt. often has two senses, Affective / Effective like this

Trshnà <tRSNA>

which is

read Affectively as "Greed" / read Effectively as "Craving" by

the Holy / the FreeLivers

What is this <tRSNA>?

The unforgettable Sir Monier Monier-Williams, found these readings,

beginning.with the A.Veda, atharva.veda.Adi, which sees "thirst"

on to the Classics which develops "desire"

:

#tRS - ##tRS – to thirst, to long.for.something – and the Pauranic *tRS -f.- Desire, the daughter of Love, aka #tRSA – thirst; and so #tRSNA f. thirst - AV. ; ŚBr.; desire, avidity (chiefly ifc.), {R.&c., our time}; Avidity as mother of dambha.Deceit & daughter of Death (mRtyu, VP. i, 7, 31 / mAra, Lalit. xxiv, 20), generated by vedanA.knowing- and generating upadAna.giving/present (Buddh.)

I call it craving,

what the thirsty deer feels when it sees a mirage.

Find YOUR meaning of Trshnà

then

~vlm.52. One single avarice has every thing in the world for its object, and though seated in the breast, it is imperceptible to all. It is as the undulating Milky ocean in this fluctuating world, sweeping all things yet regaling mankind with its odorous waves.

~sv.47-52 It is a wonder that sages are able to cut this with the sword of self-knowledge.

This Canto deals with a difficult Technical Term (tt.).

A tt. often has two senses, Affective / Effective like this

Trshnà <tRSNA>

which is

read Affectively as "Greed" / read Effectively as "Craving" by

the Holy / the FreeLivers

What is this <tRSNA>?

The unforgettable Sir Monier Monier-Williams, found these readings,

beginning.with the A.Veda, atharva.veda.Adi, which sees "thirst"

on to the Classics which develops "desire"

:

#tRS - ##tRS – to thirst, to long.for.something – and the Pauranic *tRS -f.- Desire, the daughter of Love, aka #tRSA – thirst; and so #tRSNA f. thirst - AV. ; ŚBr.; desire, avidity (chiefly ifc.), {R.&c., our time}; Avidity as mother of dambha.Deceit & daughter of Death (mRtyu, VP. i, 7, 31 / mAra, Lalit. xiv, 20), generated by vedanA.knowing- and generating upadAna.giving/present (Buddh.)

I call it craving,

what the thirsty deer feels when it sees a mirage.

Find YOUR meaning of Trshnà

*vlm.1 I see our vices like a flock of owls flying about in the region of our minds, under the darkness of our affections, and in the longsome night of our avarice.

*jd. the owls are of course the five senses. the English 'term of venery' for such a group of owls is "a parliament" of owls. note the implied ref. to vishvAmitra's #kauzika (Owl) clan.
