Hello YVAC,
The release of the first images from Vera C. Rubin Observatory is taking place tomorrow: Monday June 23. This 8.4-meter telescope in Chile, equipped with the largest digital camera ever built, is expected to revolutionize astronomy by taking detailed images of the southern hemisphere sky for 10 years, covering the entire sky every few nights.
The
release of the first images will be livestreamed online and "watch parties" are taking place at partner institutions, planetariums, museums, libraries, universities, and other organizations around the world. I am going to host a "virtual watch party" on Zoom starting just before 8 am Pacific time tomorrow morning for any YVAC members interested in gathering to watch the livestream.
