Just to add to what James said above, this is something that has been on our priority list for some time now, but got a little bit hijacked by the other bits of major work we did on the viewer upgrade from version 2.x (running under XNAT 1.7) to version 3 (running under XNAT 1.8).
The core OHIF team has recently presented one part of a solution - this
video looks really slick - for writing length annotations to DICOM-SR format, which is very nice, because it keeps the annotation results within the radiology workstream. However, we haven't yet seen the equivalent for any of the other annotation tools, so don't know whether this will be generally applicable.
In general, it's also worth saying that discussion is still needed on how file types like DICOM-SR get represented within the XNAT schema. They are not "scans" as such. Some discussion has started on this, but again, this work got sidelined a little in the run up to the launch of v3 of the viewer.
