Question Summary

What UTF8mb4 character code does XATAFace 2.2.0 running on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS PHP7 MySQL 5.7 need to see to display the new line ?

Question Details

Currently, XATAFace record displays MySQL 5.7 “TEXT” field with UTF8mb4 new line code:

What UTF8mb4 character code does XATAFace 2.2.0 running on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS PHP7 MySQL 5.7 need to see to display the line feed like so:

This MySQL installation has been setup for full UTF8mb4 Unicode support, asian characters and the works !

The U+000B New Lines are being inserted upstream in a csv import file from a UTF8 text editor with the thinking that the result of the new line would be displayed, ie. a new line and not just an inline graphic block with 00 0B .

Should I be going about this a different way? Or is there a UTF8mb4 character that will allow XATAFace to depict the newline ?

Xataface by default uses UTF-8 on the client side.  If the database is set up with a different encoding, it will convert it.

If these characters are being introduced by a CSV file that you're importing, then I recommend you pre-sanitize it before doing the import.  E.g. http://stackoverflow.com/a/16496799/2935174
