Dear Birders,

At 11:30 am this  morning near the Centennial Shelter, I had a Turkey Vulture in my binoculars.  I couldn't believe it.  I had all the identifying marks, the 2 tone wings and rounded tail.  It's flight pattern also matches the turkey vulture.  I went to my Peterson's guide to rule out any others.  On a crazy note, my Wyoming Bird Checklist had Turkey Vulture bookmarked on page 95.  I hope others can find it.

Best Wishes,
Rich

This seems too early for Turkey Vultures here. I am not doubting Rich's ability to identify a Turkey Vulture, but somebody has gotten the calendar messed up. Anybody else get a look at this bird?

A Turkey Vulture in January is totally impossible.  However, that doesn't mean Rich didn't see one.  I have seen several totally impossible birds in the last year, so this would just continue the trend of weird sightings.  I looked yesterday, but didn't find it.  Way less than half the time I find a bird that I chase.  I hope everyone will keep their eyes open.  I've sent the Turkey Vulture expert in Casper, Joanne Theobald a note to watch for them at the roost near her home.

To All:
Since don't have calendars to consult, maybe the extended warm temperatures are prodding birds to travel north early.
