To all:
I drove to Billings from Cody and saw my FOY Meadowlark along the hwy just before the stateline (Park Co. WY).
Also, on the MT side I saw an immature Golden Eagle perched on top of a rail Box Car that was parked/stationed with other box cars along the river (Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone). Unusual and low hunting perch.
More interesting was a Canada Goose sitting in an old Osprey nest on a man-made platform just before Laural along MT212. Platform is less than 1/2 mile from Yellowstone River.
This nest is atop a power-pole-height pole (20+ ft).
Was the Goose seeking shelter from the high winds? Or is she(?) planning to nest there? Isn't the latter unusual for the species - to nest that high?
I'll have to drive to Billings in the next week or so to see what is the case.
Best regards.
Ross.
