Well now I have an unresolved time issue with wsjtx and my computer.

I saw Bart's spot of e44 on 10 m. After getting everything up and running I was not decoding anyone and then I noticed in wjtx window that the time was in red and it was off, not synced.

Looking back at it. Dimension 4 has not synced since June. The 2nd also tried to sink the computer time itself. Bypassing dimension 4 and the computer would not sync either so I've got a computer issue with the time..

Very frustrating to miss a bandslot.

So now this problem will have to be addressed another day working 12-hour weekend night shifts no time.

Bart thanks again for the spot.
I was just waking up and saw it come across The reflector. I got out of bed to try to get to the shack and get the e44 in the log.. not this time but thanks for the spot.

I have used Meinberg since FT8 first began.  Never have had a problem with it.

I've had dimension 4 on the shack  computer for 5 years. Never had a problem with it .

on my laptop that I use for portable. I use mineberg.

I haven't been very active in the last couple months due to work and life getting in the way. And I missed the clock being off and I happen to notice that the Delta was in the red on ft8. That's when I started investigating and realized that dementia 4 would not sink. I turned it off and then tried to get the computer itself to sync up and it wouldn't sync up either.

I'm will have to try to figure this out soon before it bites me again. Getting ready to head out for my night shift!

        Everyone have a good evening

I think I've sent this before but one of the most basic methods to sync time with known good time servers is to use w32tm. In windows click start > type cmd and right click command prompt > open as administrator then type w32tm /resync and press enter. On most systems that should resync. If the pc is seriously out of sync or you encounter errors you might need to set it up to use specific time servers and force the update. You can do so by typing the following and pressing enter after each line in command prompt.
net stop w32time
w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:"0.it.pool.ntp.org 1.it.pool.ntp.org 2.it.pool.ntp.org 3.it.pool.ntp.org"
net start w32time
w32tm /config /update
w32tm /resync /rediscover

There are methods to force this to be automated as well which negates the need for doing this manually. This issue got me last Tuesday as well when I changed a hard drive out and forgot to set it up on the new installation. I only realized it during the wvar net when my time for id was off from my phone.

Matt, thanks for the follow-up. A lot of good information here. I will definitely check it out very soon. Thank you for putting the information on the reflector.

I use NetTime from these folks: www.timesynctool.com
once you set it up you forget it is running. I have used this program since "Dos" and it has never had any issues. BTW it runs fine on All windows platforms through Win11 including servers.

I also use timefudge with FT8 for small incremental  on the fly adjustments. As far as I can tell it only effects the FT8 decoder. All is reset upon exiting the FT8 program. Works with all FT8 program decoders I have tried.

Tom,

Sorry I did not see your email sooner.

If you use the instructions from the following link to install Meinberg NTP, then you should be set.  Make SURE that you DO NOT SKIP any steps.  Follow these instructions EXACTLY!

Here is what the above link says about "Where to Install Meinberg NTP"

Where to install NTP?

In a single-user PC, in a benign environment, I recommend creating a directory called C:\Tools\ if you don't already have one, and putting the NTP software into C:\Tools\NTP\.  I suggest this as the installation includes user-editable files, and C:\Program Files\ isn't an appropriate location for such data.  This is because of the directory virtualisation which Windows Vista and Windows-7/8/10 perform, and you end up editing a file, but it's not the file which NTP will read.

Also, here is a YouTube video on installing Meinberg.  But, I always just use the written instructions on the SatSignal website above:

Tim, I tired of trying to maintain sync with these programs and several years ago purchased a GPS (link below) and use NMEATime to maintain sync. (link below)
Easy setup and does a great job.

Hello All, FYI,
I've have had a couple of these things for awhile. Though they work good and are easy to set up, you'll need to check for EMI. I first discovered it had a problem on the phone portion of 10 Meters. "In my shack" on 10 Meters it added up to about 6 S-Units of noise. A quick check showed it was most offending around 19MHz plus / minus a wide broadband swath. My investigation led me to a unshielded USB cable.

Yep, chopped it up to get inside, sure enough the cable is unshielded. I didn't like the fix (6 turns on snap on-ferrite which has to be very close to both ends in order to remove the EMI - well most all, 1/4 S-Unit still there), therefore I ordered a 6 & 10 foot double shielded USB cable, but haven't installed either of them yet (I have two of these GPS Pucks and they both have EMI).

I think if you go to www.time.gov it will sync the clock automatically.
