Guys,

I know most of you are probably aware that I am one of the remote operators of the current KP5 DXpedition from Desecheo Island which, prior to this operation, stood at #14 on ClubLog's Most Wanted List.  I have actually worked several of you during my operating shifts.  Congratulations to those of you in WVDXA who have worked KP5/NP3VI for an ATNO!  And congratulations to those of you who have picked up Challenge points thus far too!

BTW, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that our very own Garry, W8OI was one of the team members of the 2009 K5D Desecheo DXpedition.  Congratulations Garry for the nice 6m, 10m and 12m QSOs and Challenge points!

I am sitting here watching Mike, AD5A on 10m CW working a nice pileup where we continue to see DXers working us for an ATNO - one of the main goals of the DXpedition.  Mike will soon be passing 10K QSOs on 10m - our most productive band thus far.  He will also be eclipsing 51K total Qs in the next few moments.  Keep in mind that he is running 20-25w into a compromise vertical antenna.

And of course the exciting thing for me with this DXpedition is that Ez HI3R's Remote Deployable Units (RDUs) have been functional from the start of the operation without any need to access the Island to make repairs or reset anything.. not to mention fill up a generator with gasoline!  This approach s a potential game-changer in terms of possibly accessing other USFWS regulated entities in the future.... KYFC!

Finally, we will be QRV until Feb. 11/12 so you still have time to work us if you have not, or if you are still looking for Challenge points.  Our team leader Otis, NP4G has been holding back on a couple band/modes which we should see QRV next week.  But if any WVDXA member still needs KP5 for an ATNO and you are struggling, please let me know.  Do NOT miss out on this opportunity!

73 es have a great w/e,

Hal W8HC

Congrats to all on what's turning out to be a very successful experiment into remote operating a much wanted DX entity. I have successfully worked them on 6 bands, 12, 15, 17, 20, 30 and 80. I look forward to hopefully working 10, 40 and 60 in the coming days. Thanks for the opportunity.
