KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORHOODS: UNIVERSITY DISTRICT
JUNE 14 | 5-8am
Gateway (1566 North High Street)
Join Experience Columbus and your fellow University District businesses for this unique networking event starting at Gateway! Attendees will begin at a designated "hub" where they can enjoy hors d'oeuvres, cash bar and networking. They will then pick up a passport showing participating businesses for samples, discounts, giveaways, or interactive experiences. This is a great way to build relationships and potential customers. Readers of Columbus Underground and the Columbus Young Professionals Club will also be invited.
Any University District business is welcome to take part in the event. Please contact Katie Suty at ks...@experiencecolumbus.com or 614-222-6122, if you would like to participate or have further questions.

street sweeping begins this month
The City of Columbus will start street sweeping on designated University District streets beginning April 1st and lasting through November 1st. If you manage rental properties in the area, please send a reminder to your tenants. Businesses whose employees use on-street parking are advised to provide notification.
NEW THIS YEAR! The city will no longer be bagging parking meters on streets with posted street sweeping. Instead, meters will display a no parking, street sweeping in progress message.
Information on the city's street sweeping program including the ability to sign up for notifications can be found at https://www.columbus.gov/publicservice/streets/Street-Sweeping/.

business owners help preserve neighborhood history

Old North Columbus native Conn Baker was an athlete, daredevil, and artist. He and his family lived in the Beers cabin which is the oldest home in Columbus (built 1804). It currently sits on East Norwich where Conn moved it from its previous location at Dodridge & High Street. Conn was best know for his circus act where he took on the persona of "Diavolo" and rode a bicycle around a loop. In fact he was the first person to accomplish this feat. He traveled the world performing as Diavolo during the early 1900's.
Personal items of Conn Baker's became available for sale last month. They included circus posters, Conn's last known bicycle, personal letters, photos of him as Diavolo, and his wood traveling trunks. The University District Organization's Archives Committee jumped at the chance to retain Conn's historic items for its University District neighborhood collection at the Ohio History Center. Local businesses Inn-Town Homes, Buckeye Real Estate, Oxford Realty donated money to help purchase these unique pieces of University District history! Many thanks!
The University District Archives Committee is working to display the items and the University District Organization has plans for a public art piece featuring Diavolo.
