Hi - thoughts on creating a Climate Week in MKE? Partner with the city, suburban counties, and various industries/sectors within? Hosting speaker panels and networking events... Like Climate Week NYC but without the flights and $500 hotel rooms.

Love this idea!  I would definitely raise my hand to help represent what is happening in our state on the healthcare front.  Healthy Climate Wisconsin, formerly Wisconsin Health Professionals for Climate Action, have some pretty lofty goals for 2023/2024!  We are also planning some very fun ways to achieve those goals!

Great idea! I can't believe Milwaukee doesn't already do this. We should wrap in ECO, the sustainability office with the city. I wonder if their comms director, Alexis Laverdiere, is in the women in the sustainability google group. I'll ask her. I can also think of dozens of people who'd be interested in participating in a Climate Week MKE.

Amazing - it seems like we have quite a lot of industries/sectors covered already. I know it's hard to think super long-term, but I feel we could pull a first try off next fall. I think we start small with the hope of growing each year. I started a Committee Sign up sheet below for your emails and times available to meet. 

If you're not able or interested in joining the committee, but still interested in helping in other ways, please provide that info below. We would need host locations, likely corporate sponsors, perhaps food suppliers, etc. so any and all contacts are helpful. We can also circle back w/ the larger group with specific needs at a later time.

I reached out to women I know in MKE who are directly working on climate issues. (I asked them all to sign up to receive notifications from this group, if they aren't already).

One person mentioned that there is also this group. Wisconsin Women in Conversation
And we may want to pull them into this forum.

Another runs Our Future Milwaukee
She is planning a summit for late this fall/early winter.

I shared information about this group and news that members wanted to start a Climate Week MKE with Alexis Laverdiere, who works in Milwaukee's sustainability office -- called ECO. As you may already know, Milwaukee's Common Council recently adopted the Climate and Equity Plan, which was spearheaded by ECO. https://city.milwaukee.gov/climate/Climate-Plan

Alexis is a key contact and would be able to help us drum up interest and connect with high-level stakeholders.

Truly loving this momentum and excitement! Getting a bit difficult to track all the separate convos on this thread, so after this, I'm going to send a separate chain to those have suggested interest and/or filled out the form from my personal email. To avoid filling up *everyones* inbox, please msg me directly or fill out the form to be added to our first Mtg. Understood not everyone can make it, but if you'd like to be kept in the loop, pls provide your email separately so I don't have to keep bombarding the larger group as I think there's more than 100 people in here. :/

I also really like this idea. I would be open to speaking, or organizing forest therapy walks (feelings of being in relationship with nature is a higher indicator of sustainable action than having knowledge of sustainability) 😉

Love this idea! I have freshly entered the sustainability industry so I won’t have much to add in terms of speaking or presenting, but I am definitely interested in attending! Would love to meet other ladies in the field and learn from you all.

I lead design thinking, innovation and leadership workshops with a focus on life-centered design. I'm also reading up on biomimicry and belonging, and hoping to add those topics to my toolbox of offerings. I live in the Northern Kettle Moraine area.  I am guessing most of you live in MKE area.  If you are interested in going for a friendly social hike sometime, please reach out to me separately and let me know where you live and how far you are willing to drive.  I am thinking Northern Kettle Moraine area or Lion’s Den Gorge on a Saturday morning.  I won’t be able to attend the Sept 8th retreat day so will organize a hike instead for anyone who wants to join.  Saturday or Sunday mornings work best in my world so let me know if either of those days typically work better for you.  I am sure it will be hard to find a time for everyone so even if a few of us can join up here and there it would be a fun way to get to know one another better.
