I somehow remember Jim as a part of the league of substitute anchors at one point, but I’m not quite sure. I know he did a long stint at my company along with Marketplace and eventually ended up with Fox News.

James Leslie Angle, II, 75, a long-time broadcast correspondent who served as a White House correspondent under four Presidential administrations, died Feb. 9, 2022 at his home in Arlington, Virginia.

He was born September 14, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas, to James Leslie and Billie Mae Angle and graduated from Haltom High school in 1964.

He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army, deploying to both Vietnam and Germany. Later in his tour, as a member of the special Berlin Brigade, he gave tours of the city to GIs.

Angle, as he was lovingly known to many, graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in 1969, and after his deployment to Vietnam received his master's degree from the University of Texas in Austin.

He started his radio career in 1975 as host of a weekly program on Latin American issues as part of his staff duties at the University of Texas’ Institute of Latin American Studies. He began free-lancing for NPR the following year and joined the staff full time in 1981.

At NPR, he served first as the editor of “All Things Considered” and then spent six years on the White House beat as the Senior White House Correspondent. In 1990 he became the host of Marketplace, based in Los Angeles. Three years later, he moved back to the East Coast to join ABC News in 1993 as Economic Policy Correspondent. He often told the story about the late Peter Jennings asking whether “I really liked my beard” which he had worn for many years. The next day, Angle showed up to work clean-shaven. His “I could take a clue!” was accompanied by his contagious laughter.

From ABC News, he moved to Fox News Channel in 1996, where he remained until his retirement in 2014. There he was the Chief White House Correspondent, then Chief Washington and then Chief National Correspondent.

After leaving Fox News, he ventured into the world of reality shows. He hosted and produced “Winemakers Uncorked” a show about off-the-beaten-path wineries. Traveling the country with him was his brother George, who was compounding the humor of his older brother.

Jim loved tennis, golf, wine, a good pair of narrow penny loafers, putting salt on his apples, and rifling through the mounds of newspaper clippings always haphazardly piled in his office. Most of all, Jim loved his late wife Patrice Pisinski-Angle, and their sons Spencer and Chris. The two were married for 13 years.

Angle was known for his fantastic sense of humor, his masterful storytelling, his good-natured debates over a single word in his scripts, and being ‘bribed’ by his producers to turn his work in on time. He had a kind heart, Texas charm and genuine compassion.

Jim is survived by his sons Spencer and Chris Pisinski, his brother George Angle, of Fort Worth, Texas, and his family, his sister-in-law Alison Avagliano, of San Francisco, California, and her family. The list of those he touched in life is endless, and his loss will be felt by each and every one of them.

The funeral service and memorial information is forthcoming.
