I was trying to think of one, and realized I'd gone over the same ground 6 years ago when the San Francisco Giants played the Kansas City Royals in the World Series. (How
many times has it happened that there is a World Series and a Super Bowl, not necessarily the same year, pitting the same cities against each other?)

So, I guess this is the

DEJA VU BOWL

Or maybe "The SAUSALITO vs. SAUCE Super Bowl"!  (If you have to ask what *kind* of sauce, you probably haven't been to Kansas City ;-))

RIP Bill Greenwood.  You will be missed!

Hold it!!!!   Bill Greenwood dies and he only gets a P.S. to another subject?  The king of the substitute anchors , with Sheila Kast being the queen!

OMG!!!!!

R.I.P. Mr. Greenwood!!

I've seen Sourdough vs. Barbecue mentioned.
I'd like to propose the Joe Montana Bowl, since he played for both teams.

And I have seen a Greenwood thread on most of this same list. Barry Mitchell also has a clip on Facebook.

I just hope WNN has a remembrance!  How quickly can they put together a highlight reel, I wonder....

[snnnnniiipppp]

Ok, I recall when we lost Dick Schapp way back in 2001 [a].

I'm pretty sure there were some others who've left us,
but can't recall any names offhand.

Anyone have a list? Thanks

[a] how the fuck did nearly two decades pass this quickly?

And dammit for the medical malpractice that contributed to his death

If only we had a document that listed such vital information ... but if we did, it couldn't be messed with ....

Maybe because it's a long weekend, but I can't even find a formal obit I can throw a link to on this list. Just a few stray tweets and Barry Mitchell's tribute on Facebook.

Has it been sufficiently verified?  The Dead People Server is no help.

P.S.  In JRR Tolkien's stories, before the GREAT SPIDER INVASION, Mirkwood was called "Greenwood the Great".  In our modern day, there just may have been an ANCHOR deserving of that term....

A copy-and-paste of Barry Mitchell's post on Facebook, with link:

I'm saddened to learn of the passing of veteran ABC-TV News reporter Bill Greenwood. The respected journalist was 77. But he often had fun when filling in as a World News Now anchor. One time in 1995, I had a gospel choir with me in the studio, singing "Give Me That School Prayer Amendment". This is how Bill signed off the show (screen right, with the beard, is co-anchor Jerry King).

Indeed... a modest amount of Twitter and FB comments,
but they all seem to be feeding on each other.

So far I haven't been able to find a direct source
or any further info as to time/place/cause

I got it from a former colleague (Ken Rudin) who was a former colleague of his at ABC.
He writes:

D77099EE-FEF2-49A8-B9B7-783BF3B46334.jpeg

Many years ago -- more than three decades, in fact! -- when I was transferred from New York to Washington for ABC News, I came across this button, and never knew what it meant.  When I showed it to ABC correspondent Bill Greenwood, whose picture is on the button, he rolled his eyes and laughed, but didn't volunteer anything more.  I was lucky to have worked with Bill at ABC and fortunate to have become his friend, especially later years on Facebook, where we BOTH rolled our eyes at the current state of politics.  To hear that he died this morning, unexpectedly, was such a terrible shock.  He was smart and fun and a good guy.  And I am so sad he is gone.  He was 77.

It's disgraceful that it has been several days and neither ABC nor CBS appears to have published an obit.

Sounds like it hasn't even been addressed on the show, then? Not even one last sportscast for old times sake?

Greenwood's Wikipedia page has been updated to reflect his passing.

There's also a guest book for condolences at a DC funeral parlor.

Sheilah Kast has already posted a really nice remembrance.

Cheers,
